I have a friend/coworker that got a new job. She is worried that giving notice will get her fired. so she's going to wait til the "last minute" to tell managment. This means the rest of the department gets screwed- especially me cause I have to cover until a replacement is found. The other girls that know want to say something also. We've asked her to tell so that they can get a replacement trained BEFORE she leaves but she refuses...... what can we do???? we don't want to get screwed!!!!

We are moving in to a house (in WA state) from a place where we didnt pay the water bill so we are just curious how much about everyone else's bills are. Also, does it vary by where you live?

Thanks

As much as you're trying to do your best, a friendly hand doesn't come to help you improve your professional life, and you begin to feel tired and disapointed.

I'm in the U.S. Army. Shortly after filing my indiana states taxes for 2005 I deployed to Afghanistan. I apparently owed the state revenue service around $40. I am pretty sure I acknowledged this before I deployed but I guess it slipped my mind.

Apparently the revenue service tried to get a hold of me (which they obviously weren't able to) regarding the situation. Eventually, a sheriff was sent to the address listed on my Indiana state driver's license and the state revenue service reported a no payment tax lien on my credit report.

All in all, the state got their crummy 40 bucks but I have the negative hit on my credit report.

I was turned down for a car loan because of it. Am I able to dispute this? If this had been under normal circumstances I would have been on top of things and this thing would have gotten paid before anything bad happed.

I've been looking at internet banks and getting ready to open an interest-earning checking account with INGDirect. Then interest rates dropped and I'm getting cold feet. I figure it's still a better deal than the interest rate my bank gives (which is practically nothing) but I'm new to all of this and would appreciate some advice. Thanks!

should this be a surprise to anyone since it was the sub-prime lending that artificially drove the prices up in the first place

Many of you may know the home sale exclusion act which allows a $250k capital gains exclusion ($500k if married) if you lived in your house and owned it 2 of the last 5 years.
My question is what happens if you rented an apartment for 2 years, then bought it, lived in it for a year, and then rented it out for 3. IN this circumstance you owned it for 4 years, but rented it out for 3, bbut have lived in the house for 2 of the last 5 years.
would u qualify for this exclusion? Or would you have to move in and live in it for 1 more year. thanks!

I have a regular brokerage account (not tax deferred). I bought a mutual fund a number of years ago, and over the years the dividends have been reinvested in the same fund. This year, I was advised to rebalance my portfolio, so I sold all of this mutual fund. Unfortunately, the last dividend reinvestments were within the last year.

So the question is, does this reinvestment cause my entire mutual fund sale to be taxed at the long-term or the short-term capital gains tax rate? Or is the recent reinvestment portion short term and everything else long term? If so, what do I use for the tax basis for all of that?

I recently applied for a loan in order to furnish a new home I have bought with my girlfriend. We need a lot as we've been renting a furnished apartment.

We were turned down, regardless of having a high income and there likely to be no problems whatsoever in making the repayments. The two deciding factors were apparently as follows:

- I'm not in enough debt (These were the words of the bank assistant). Because I choose not to take out a credit card or unnecessary loans, instead living within my means, I'm considered too risky!?
- I live in a new build. Apparently, the fact my address was not in their system went considerably against me, which seems ludicrous.

This all seems backwards to me - because I manage money well and have an income high enough to afford a brand new home I am a branded a bad credit risk. If I had 7 credit cards and a load of debt, I'm more suitable, apparently?

The question is, what happens to my credit score? I know it's affected adversely, but how badly.

Hi

1. Re the below, what if the creditor has written to the debtor but the debtor has paid nothing nor contacted the creditor for more than six years? Do the provisions of the act still apply?

"Limitations Act 1980 outlines the time limit within which a creditor can chase a debtor for outstanding debts. The Limitations Act 1980 only applies when no contact has been made between the creditor and debtor within the given time limit and only applies to residents of England and Wales."

2. I have defended a claim on the above basis and been asked to fill in an allocation questionaire which is confusing. Any advice?

Many thanks
