I am confused as to what to do - my husband and I recently reconciled and between the two of us, we have $40,000 in unsecured credit card debt. Although he makes very good money, approx. $3900 per month, we cannot keep up on all the minimum payments for these cards, let alone trying to pay the principal.

He has a car payment and we own our house (or we will in 27 years anyway :) - we have not been late on the mortgage as that is our top priority. We also have 4 kids...... should we file? We figure since we have the house and vehicles that we can deal with the bad, bad credit that this will result in but are we forgetting something?

We considered a debt consolidation but we heard this is more often then not a scam and ruins your credit as much as or more then a bankruptcy. Any advice is appreciated ~ thank you.

I am a graduate student. Recently, my university chose me to in the university's Brochure as a "Hero" story.

It's a wonderful thing. I am just wondering how can I use this opportunity to enhance my competitive advantages. Can I put this in my resume on a reward section?

I hope to pursue my Ph.D and my career in the United Nations, NGOs, or Non-profit organizations. It's a very competitive world out there. Any suggestion on this? Thank you so much for your kindness.

I get some credit cards I would like to pay off as soon as possible. I read that you should pay the card with the higher interest rate first and then pay the minimum payment on the other cards. I like the idea of consolidating all your credit cards and make one payment , as this would make my life easier. Which option would be better, pay off each credit card or consolidate?

Hello. I originally did my 2004 tax return with H&R Block in 2004. I didn't receive notification that for some reason, the return was never finished by H&R Block, and that because of it, I owed the state (CT) money until May of this year. I took it to H&R Block, they gave me an amended copy and I sent it to the state. I got another letter saying the same thing. I took it back to H&R Block, then they called the state, and told me that I would have to send in my W-2's from 2004, and that would resolve it. I went through my company's payroll, and got the W-2's, then sent them in. I still got another letter. I went back to H&R, who scheduled me on a RI holiday, when the offices are closed so they couldn't call the state, and they said to call back. I called and spoke to this guy who said he would have someone call me, and that he would then personally call me, but no one called. I went back to H&R, and they tried to call the state, but no one answered so they said they would call me.......

I am mostly interested in specifics of IT world: software companies. I signed an offer and gave a 2-weeks notice, but my current company is in such a poor shape that I feel somewhat insecure to reveal where I am going. can it be for a good reason? Or it's just me being extra cautious?

There are supposedly forms you can complete that enable you to apply more to the principal (less to the interest) without exceeding your normal monthly payment. I called my mortgage company; they said there are no such forms and that the principal and interest are amortized throughout the 30 years of the loan... That the amoritization schedule could not be altered... That you could only reduce your principal by paying more than your monthly payment (and indicating that the extra should be applied to principal). If that's so, how could the system possibly work? They (John Cummuta) told me I could pay off my 30 year loan (27 left) in 7 years.

I have a term paper that requires me to observe and comment on the way businesses empower and encourage their employees and the business' managerial structure. Does anyone have any advice as to what type of business (e.g. private or public, sole trader or partnership etc.) would be more willing to give out this type of information and how I can contact these businesses and ask them for this information (e.g. do I just walk in and ask an employee how his/her business treats him or him and what benefits the business provides to its employees
