Appliance repair supported my uncle for a lifetime in a small town. Plumbing might be good too if you can get the training to get licensed or electrician.

Hey Jon... Have you considered being a Loan Officer? Most states do not require a business liscence, loan officer or real estate liscence to do this kind of work. You would be self employed (1099), you can work anywhere that you have access to a phone and a computer. I have been self employed for 2 years and made about $60k last year. Most top producers can make more than $100k annually, depending on your desire to make money.

As a loan officer, you would solicit mortgages from various lead sources such as cold calling or referals from realtors, builders and contractors. It's really not a hard job but requires general math skills and a strong personality; sales skills would be extremely helpful as well.

To give you an example of how the income works, it goes like this:

$300,000 loan x 2% (your Broker fee) = $6,000 commision to you.
Fees are always negotiable and max fees are regulated by the state your doing business in. Most states allow up to 5%.

The rest is up to you... do some research. I hope all works out for the best. Good luck.

While it might be an uphill struggle to try too break into movie script writing without experience, relevant writing samples, or contacts in the movie industry, making a living as a writer is a realistic goal. You do still need to have some basic writing skills and samples of your work to show prospective clients, but freelance writing is a viable work-from-home profession -- I ve been doing it since 1993. When the Internet came along, the marketplace for writers expanded exponentially. Since telecommuting is now commonplace among freelance writers, it doesn t matter whether you live in a small town or a teeming metropolis. With the Internet, email, Skype, and other forms of real-time communication, living in a small town in no longer a limitation.

have you thought about going to school for anything? its hard sometimes to get a job without schooling and training. there are grants and other funds available to those who need it if money is an issue. you can take online courses(at home or at a library) if you dont have a college right in your home town. if youre wanting to own your own business there is an entrepreneurship certificate you can get that only last a year(if you go full time) that will guide you in the right direction as far as being a small business owner.
