I live in Canada, Sask. I'm 14, turning 15 in Feb. I want to move out, but I thought it would be easier, and possibly funner (hehe) to live in an appartment that's near my school. It's possible for me to make SOME money to pay for rent, but my parents could also pitch in. Is that legal? If my parents rent it out, but don't live there? Just me, while helping them pay for rent? Or is that a totally bogus idea? I don't want the poepoe involved in any way. Haha. That would not be good. If appartments arn't an option, I'll be moving in with one of my friends.

It is said that most people burdened with huge amounts of money frequently end up broke, squandering their money in various ways. One Lotto winner bought a truckload of marijuana and was caught, thereby losing his fortune. Another made bad investments and ended up without a dime. If you suddenly became filthy rich, what would be your immediate goal?

Hi, can some please help me with this question I have been working on it all day but my answer seems to be wrong:

Assume that Shengru Inc. decides to sell CBTV, its television subsidiary, on September 30, 2007. There is a formal plan to dispose of the subsidiary and the sale qualifies for discontinued operations treatment. Pertinent data on the operations of the TV subsidiary are as follows:

loss from operations from beginning of year to September 30, $1,300,000 (net of tax)
loss from operations from September 30 to end of 2007, $700,000 (net of tax)
estimated loss on sale of net assets on disposal date June 1, 2008, $150,000 (net of tax)
The year end is December 31.

What is the net income/loss from discontinued operations reported in 2007? In 2008?

Net income/loss (2007): $

Net income/loss (2008): $

Prepare the discontinued operations section of the income statement for the year ended 2007.

Discontinued operations (2007):

If the amount reported in 2008 as a gain or loss from disposal of the subsidiary by Shengru Inc. becomes materially incorrect, when and how is the correction reported, if at all?

They were speculating that the price of silver was about to plummet due to a massive influx of silver from new mines in China, and that he did not want to be stuck with it. He keeps this in several vaults along with other valuables. The vaults are each bigger than my living room. The silver is stored on pallets, so we are talking about several TONS of silver bars. My question is: how can I best position myself to capitalize on the soon to plummet price of silver? Isn't there a way to "bet" that the price will drop over the next several months? I seem to recall reading about this happening in the commodities market regularly, is there a similar setup for metals? What is it called, and how do i set that up? thanks

DETAILS: Bought a large 3800 sq. ft commercial building in 2000 and have run a gift, stationary, craft & office supplies business inside it. The business was gang busters in sales...until two years ago. Now sales & the market are soft. I barely make enough to pay my mortgage. I virtually work for free. Have tried to sell it--lowering my price again and again and realtor for sale sign in side window by busy highway. No bites. I've used Craigslist--no avail.

So now I am stuck with a nice condition but large building, a business that is boring and barely breaks even. Can't find renters for a building this large. Can't afford to divide it in half. Savings going down the drain to pay building taxes. Sale of my inventory would not allow me to buy enough for new inventory--building is too large.

ARE YOU CREATIVE?? WHAT can I do??

I am working part time as an independent contractor, as well as working two other full time jobs that I do pay taxes on, as well as my husband who is has a full time job, and taxes are also deducted, so total we make 50-60k a year on income that is taxed. I now have a home based part time business and I will roughly make about 6-10k a year from this non taxed. Wondering how much I would need to put aside a year to pay the taxes that will be due. Also would I have to file two seperate taxes returns, one for me & my husbands main tax paying jobs, and then another for my business?

I want to open an interest-earning online checking account. I've heard nothing but good things about ING Direct but Charles Schwab is offering a higher interest rate. I'd like to hear from current customers about what you think of the banks' security, ease in transferring funds to and from your linked "regular" checking account, and customer service. Your advice is greatly appreciated!
