I have sent a detailed dispute letter to a collection agency with in 30 days of their notice, as one of my creditor charged unreasonable/non geneune charges. After the letter, I got another notice from different collection agency. Again I sent the dispute letter to the second agency with strong words. After that letter there is no reply from anyone. However, my ceredit report says there is a negative item. Also, it says the iem was properly disputed. Now What is my option to remove this negative item from my report? Thanks ...

Did you dispute the item with the credit bureau? How long as it been? It normally takes abour 45 days to get a reply.

The credit bureau sends your dispute to the creditor and gives them 30 days to respond. If the creditor doesn't respond, the item comes off. If the creditor says yes, then the item stays.

You then have to go to the creditor, sending a certified, return receipt letter, requesting proof that the debt is yours. If they don't respond to you in 30 days, you can they go back to the credit bureau and dispute it again, including a copy of you letter to the creditor, indicating they failed to respond.

Hopefully, you won't have to go thru all that and it's just a typo and will be corrected the first time.

I have been told that if you dispute any charges on your credit report and there is no reply from the creditor, then the charge must be taken off your report. I am not sure of the time frame the creditor is given, though.

Did you also dispute it with the credit card company?
