I live in Canada, Sask. I'm 14, turning 15 in Feb. I want to move out, but I thought it would be easier, and possibly funner (hehe) to live in an appartment that's near my school. It's possible for me to make SOME money to pay for rent, but my parents could also pitch in. Is that legal? If my parents rent it out, but don't live there? Just me, while helping them pay for rent? Or is that a totally bogus idea? I don't want the poepoe involved in any way. Haha. That would not be good. If appartments arn't an option, I'll be moving in with one of my friends.

Listen to my parents? What are you talking about? Who says they arn't the ones wanting me to leave?

Why WOULDN'T I want to leave. Guys, this isn't an issue about WHY I'm leaving. It's how. And what's in it for them is I'm leaving. If I move in with my friends, they won't make me pay my way, but of course I will want to help out as much as I can, which I can do on my own.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA. Of course I care about my parents, but if they really care for me, they'll let me leave. It WILL NOT being taken from their RETIREMENT fund in any way shape or form! I do not what you all to be going on about morals and what-not. This is purely a situation on whether or not I'll be involved with the poepoe. Not money, either. I am mature and responsible enough to plan out my own future, what I want, and when I want it. I have thoroughly thought of my life moving and not moving out. None of you know about my life, and my conditions, which are a major factor. I know what I want to do with my life, in the future, and present.

Okay, JUST READ THIS, AND NOTHING ELSE. WILL I GET IN TROUBLE IF I LIVE IN AN APPARTMENT ALONE? Easy enough, right?

OK, I did not read all of the responses. You want to know if you would get in trouble.

Several people will be in trouble.

Child Protective Services (or whatever it is called in Canada) will come and get you. You will be put into a shelter or foster home. You are a child.

Your parents will be arrested for child abandonment and fraud, as they are signing a lease without intending to live there.

The landlord will be arrested for child endangerment.

Any other adults who knew about this and did nothing to protect you will also be guilty of child endangerment. If they are teachers they will be strictly punished, as they are required by law to protect you. Parents of your friends, your neighbors, any adult who knows you have been abandoned are in trouble.

If you are truly only 14 years old. Why on earth would you want to move out of your parents house. Even if you were 30 years old, it doesn't sound like you can afford to live on your own. Maybe you should wait until you finish high school and get a better job so you can pay your own way. See that is the grown up thing to do. By the way, what is in this for your parents? What is their incentive to pay your rent for you? If you move in with your friends, are they going to pay your way in life or are you once again going to ask your parents for the money?

No, because that's just leeching off your parents money when they don't want you to. Also, if you work just to earn the rent money and utility bills (easily rises up to 300 dollars a month... at least for me in an 800 dollar apartment a month ~ 1100USD) - you won't have time for yourself and I think that's critical when you are 14 years old.

Here's another way to look at this situation (using your parents money): You're 50 years old. You have a kid, and s/he is saying he wants to live off a place with your hard-earned cash that you had planned to use for your retirement. Because of this situation, you are paying cash out of your own pocket where you could have used it for better things like investments, vacation (and after 60 years, you better believe you deserve it), food because your pension is not gonna cover much when you retire... but I digress - Canada's different from USA. You might want to pay off your estate, that spanking new car you just bought, etc. But noo... your kid wants to leech off you forcing you to work more just to make up for the loss of your kid's "rent". Oh, and that saved money could also go towards your kid's college education, but he's choosing to rent out which means your kid might not even go to college at all because s/he's using up valuable resources.

Think about it.

If you simply don't care about your parents and their money and their life... go for it.

Edit: You sound like me when I was 14 too. I'm really glad I stayed with my parents then... it saved me a small fortune and prevented me from going bankrupt.

I believe your parents would be charged with child endangerment or some other child abuse/neglect charge if they enabled you to move into an apartment on your own at your age.

You are too young and have no idea of the expense and work required to have your own apartment. Who will shop for groceries and cook your meals? Who will do the laundry -- including toting it to and from the laundromat? Who will clean the apartment?

You particularly think of your mothers and fathers might willingly purchase/lease you an appartment, pay on your utilities, meals, college, etc. once you're 15?? No. quite in case you don't get alongside with them. heavily, improve up and recover from it.

Yes, you will get in trouble if you live alone. Or, at least your parents will, with provincial child welfare authorities, who would consider you an unaccompanied minor. Living with friends is ok,as long as one of them is over 18 and could act as your legal guardian.

Stay at home and listen to your parents. you have no idea of the responsibility involved in what you are asking.

If you are old enough to pay for it, go for it. Otherwise grow up.
