I have often heard that since older accounts don't affect your score as much as newer ones, that paying off old debts that have been neglected will actually initially make your score worse since these bad debts become current due to recent activity. I know that paying these off will obviously help in the long term, but will the score actually get worse before it gets better? FYI...the particular debts are credit card debts that were either charged off or in the hands of collection agencies. Nothing has been paid on them in about 4-5 years (long story how it got to that point), but now I am ready to start catching up.

Hi All,

We are moving out end of this month from our old appartment.

We have lived in this rented property for 2.5 yrs and there are some stains left on the carpet and some marks on the walls of the house.

Our landlord is supposed to perform a walk through of the place in a few days and he wrote to us that he expects the place to be in move-in condition.

I was wondering there is expected wear & tear of the carpet in 2.5 yrs, for that are there laws protecting the tenant from that.

What should the landlord expect from us? What should we offer when we talk to him? Can he make us pay for changing the carpet and painting the walls.

A international corporation based out of Minnesota has made it a priority to cut two major areas of their corporation down to the bare bones...one is quality (who gives a darn about complaints from the customers) and IT, (service who needs service? Let them start using typewriters again.) All the while the CEO complains he is now down to 1 vacation home. Hmmm. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

So I am looking to start investing, both in short term and long term options...
But I want to make sure that I do not make any stupid mistakes when it comes to my money.

What are some mistakes that you have all made? How would I be able to avoid them to ensure a good return on my investments?

Thanks to all!

I have heard that checking your credit score should be done seldomly as the amount of attempts on your acct can work against you. But say, you want to check to see if there is something on there you need to correct...? Is checking your credit score 1 time a year a bad or good idea?

I hate the working environment of me job I started last week, there is swearing and other things I do not like. I am too scared to confront my manager to quit since he might make a big show out of it. I work tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, then all next week off, then back to work Saturday and Sunday. If I mail him a letter before I go to work Friday, he should get the letter by Tuesday, saying I quit effective immediately. Then he has 5 days to find a replacement for my shifts that weekend. That work?

I am trying to sell my home and my broker/agent will not hold an open house, will not run print ads, and has only got us ONE SHOWING in 2 MONTHS. I am waiting for the contract to expire to get a new agent. My question is will I owe her any money at the end of the contract? Is it customary to pay a listing charge if you decide not to sign an extension of the contract? The contract states "seller shall pay in cash to broker for services a total commission as follows:$1500 listing broker." Doesn't commission mean you sold something??

My understanding is the negative information is only allowed to be reported on your credit report for 7 years. So since I completely stopped paying my credit cards last August "06" should all negative information regarding these account disappear from my credit report in August 2013? or Since the credit companies continue to report each month when does the auctual 7 years start, is it when you last made a payment at all or is it when it's transferred to collections, or is it when it's made a charge off, please help. Thank you.
