I just got a washington mutual checking and saving. My credit score is bad. And I mean BAD. Like below 500 bad. Would getting a secured credit card with washington mutual help my credit? I'm either going to keep using my capital one or open a secured, whichever boosts my credit faster. And please don't say anything stupid like pay your bills I know that. I need a serious answer

This year the property tax in my state was restructured, or in plain terms raised.
Some people are paying double or triple of what they use to pay.
One guy who owed over $12000 in taxes, so he decided instead of cutting a check, to bring in cold hard cash, in singles.
The assessor was pissed and told him to take it back and in his words "do it right"
Can he really demand that when there is no law prohibiting him from paying in cash?

We were not married last year and she was only 17. I was 19 but I supported her 100% and she lived with me all year. She made less than $ 3000 for the year and no one else claimed her as a dependent. I have been told I could re-file now and claim her as a dependent for last year and recieve a larger refund. Is this true?

I am looking in to purchasing raw land on a lake with the plans to build a log cabin for a vacation property.

However, with the requirement for 50% down on land loans and the current housing market (buyers market) and interest rate plus the fact that the down payment can be as low as 10%, I wonder if it is more cost effective to buy a used cabin on a lake. I am thinking of renting out the property (new or used) to weekly vacationers while I am away in order to help offset the additional mortgage. I am looking for some advice from someone who has expereince in vacation rental property.

Point snatchers: Please don't waste my time with your simple "build" or "buy" opinion - that doesn't help. Tell me WHY.

I saw an ad in the paper that the post office was hiring. So I called them and they said that they will send a packet of information, then you have to pay $140 to take a test. If you fail, you don't get your money back. If you pass, your test score determines how quickly you get an interview-then you get your money back. Is this the way it's done, or are we getting screwed by some good scammers?

I wonder if I buy items and the auction closes for less than I paid: must I report each "sale" made as income if I'm losing money on sales? I really need a tax professional if you're out there. I would hate to have a tax bill for $100s or (gulp) $1000s of dollars after a year in which my business lost money. The IRS makes me nervous about starting-up a business...thanks for any advice to all.

Last year I brought home alot more money to pay the bills than this year and I will be working more hours this year. How do I convince my job to switch me back to hourly (which I will get overtime) instead of salary? They said they have to do the same for all yet the boss has a brand new car and just bought 2 horses so I know they can afford it...My boyfriend says to give them an ultimatum and say either pay me more or I will have to find another job, yet I do not want to be biting my tounge because I really need this job...

Around 2 years ago, my friend told me that her store needed some emergency money. I lent her 2 of my highest credit line credit cards, so she can swipe it in her own store when she needed it. I never took a look at the statements because she was paying the bills every month for 2 years.

One day when i look at the statements for the 1st time. She had swipe $10000 total from both cards and she only had repay $2000 total. I got mad. I changed the card #s and told her should pay me back quick.

That is not the end. Sometimes she gets mad about paying the normal bills and claims she will suicide if i continue to ask her for those money. Sometimes she saids she will call the police if i keep on asking for those money. She close her store early and cut her phone line to aviod paying. She even write me a few check that cannot be cashed.

How can i get my money back? Please help me.
Can i still call and claim those are unathorized payments?

I am closing on a house in 2 days and when I contacted my realtor today, aparently the seller is trying to get a short sale approved. My realtor has been working on this for the past couple of weeks, I've had no knowledge of this. The seller had signed off on a contract stating that he would pay for majority of my closing costs. What problems could there be with this. I am still waiting to see if we will still be able to close on Wednesday....

I just had a baby in June and I was wondering who would be better claiming her, me or my boyfriend? We both earn about the same amount of money. However, I both sold and bought a home this year. He is not named in either sale. Who's better off claiming the baby?

PS- We both will share the money since we live together and have our savings together, so whoever gets more......

I can't seem to find this info on the internet. We are new landlords and it has come to our attention that our tenant changed the locks on our rental property. Is this legal? If not what do I need to do to make them aware what they did isn't the way it should be, and to get a key to the property? We live in the state of PA.

I just read about the Fair Credit Reporting Act and how delinquencies that are older than 7 years should not be on my report. But there are several that are 8, 9, 10 years old that are still on my report. How can I get these items removed? I was shocked to find them on there because I didn't think they were on there anymore or still affecting my credit score, but they are.
