Why do retailers (Wal-mart, Home Depot, etc.) always expect more out of their employees than they are willing to pay them? Retail is quick to point out to the customers' "you get what you pay for"; but, when it comes to flip side of the coin, their attitude is, why shouldn't we expect more out you than we are willing to pay you?

I know of people who have been working for Wal-mart for over 20 years and still don't even make a measely $15 an hour. At Home Depot, people there are paid so little money that I have seen almost on a regular bases where they would hire as many as 10 people at a time and within 3 weeks or less, all of them have quit. Rather than deal with the issue, management makes out it doesn't understand why and writes it off as just part of the retail statistics.

What do you think?

My landlord is telling me that she needs to be added to me & my wife's contents insurance policy as an "interested party". I have serious doubts over this as I don't know if this then allows her to make claims on my policy without my intervention. I especially find this to be a dubious request as the property is also being managed by a property management company.

This question is for UK people because I have been led to understand that our laws in these areas are very different to mainland European and American laws.

I worked within the civil service both full time and as a temp for many years and was fully security cleared. I am now at university and would love to go back to the civil service - if possible within the prison sector but I have been diagnosed with Bipolar. Will this affect my chances?

I passed all the admin tests and had advanced pay for typing/audio skills when I was working before.

I was in a situation where the seller's agent refused an offer without consulting the seller. I am under the impression that is against the law and am just seeking proof.

A reliable close friend of the family (close enough to actually be a member) is interested in a land contract with my home.

They were not approved for the full amount to purchase so we offered a land contract.
They just don't have enough credit established.

I have never been in this situation before. I trust them, I just wanted to hear someone else's experiences or thoughts on this.

Thanks! :)

I don't want to put any real money in the stock market yet untill I understand it a little more. I would like to do some kind of mock investment game for six months or so and see if I am capable of making money at it. Is there is one out there on the internet? Does anyone know of one any joe schmoe can do?

I just got served with papers to go to court. Apparently my old college is trying to say that I owe the 6 grand and they sold my debt to a collector so know i can't even argue the legitamacy of the debt. I have no money for a lawyer, but I heard if you file for bankrupcy it will at least buy some time. I am not interested in finishing the bnkrupsy, but merely getting to that 7th year so the money will fall off

I messed up my credit as a kid, and it's taken me years to rebuild, but now I'm getting phone calls from people who barely speak English and have only a 1-800 # and a PO Box, wanting to "collect on a debt" that's over 6-7 years old and this is the first time anyone was able to get a hold of me ~ obviously, a scam...but what are my options for making them go away? I've called the BBB on one company - turns out they've already had 15+ complaints brought against them, and their rating is so low they don't even care about the Better Business Bureau. They call daily, nighly, on weekends & holidays, usually leaving recorded messages...Do I have any protection under law without pursuing litigation or changing my phone number?

I want to watch how my Stock & Share ISA is doing but my ISA displays my investment as number of shares times by bid price (approx £1.35) but online sites show the FTSE 100 as points i.e. 6,544.10. What is the difference and how can I convert between the two.

In the future I intend to watch my investments using m$ money and this also imports market values as points.

I have to redo my W-4 because of a change in my marital status. When I complete the questions to get the number I should claim, it is very high. Obviously, having less taken out is a good thing, but my concern is in getting stuck at the end of the year with a heafy tax obligation. Thoughts?
