I worked within the civil service both full time and as a temp for many years and was fully security cleared. I am now at university and would love to go back to the civil service - if possible within the prison sector but I have been diagnosed with Bipolar. Will this affect my chances?

I passed all the admin tests and had advanced pay for typing/audio skills when I was working before.

I am not looking at working with prisoners but in the admin/management side of prisons or detention centres.

I would not think anyone who suffers from uncontrollable mood swings should consider the Prison Service - most Prisons are a powder keg waiting to explode - one wrong word could lead to things getting out-of-control rather quickly ..

I would recommend seeking employment in a profession where you are less likely to encounter persons who might do you physical harm
