I started a new job in the middle of their 2 week pay period. Will I get paid at the end of my first two weeks or wait for the next pay period (my 3rd week)?

I run a small business here in the UK, I employ 3 staff and there are 3 family. Firstly I only employ because to provide the high level of service that we do, staff are necessary. I pay well above minimum because skills are required. Staff holidays are an inconvenience because I have to cover their time off on top of my already 60 to 70 hour week. This year the government are making it compulsory to give an extra 8 days paid leave, making a total of 28 which I can neither afford to pay or physically cover myself. I am considering closing the business as this is really just another government imposed burden on top almost one new one every week. The real losers here are the employees who given the choice would sooner be in work rather than the extended holiday that is looming. What would you do?

I mean, if you worked at Hooter's where guys tip alot just because of the way the waitresses are dressed, they would make alot of money. But, at other restaurants, wouldn't they only make alot of money during the rushes. It seems to me alot of hard work, especially if they are being paid under the minimum wage. Look at all the crap they deal with. Dirty dishes, rudeness and in the end, most people don't tip the minimum! Why be a waiter or waitress?

My boyfriend did an internship with one of the big 4 accounting/audting firms and has worked there for almost a year. He is great at what he does and gets picked up for lots of jobs, but unfortunately, he works avg 80 or more hours a week. He says he just has to pay his dues the first 2 or 3 years. Is this true or are the hours always crazy? Thanks bunches!

My grandma put in deposit for an apartment, she was suppose to move in but the manager did not finish fixing the place so the move in date was push back. During that time, another complex for low incomes had a vacant apartment and gave her the offer. The rent was cheaper and the place was better so she decided to take this one instead. She did call and tell the manager of the place she deposit to rent the place out. Can she get back all or part of her deposits?
