I mean, if you worked at Hooter's where guys tip alot just because of the way the waitresses are dressed, they would make alot of money. But, at other restaurants, wouldn't they only make alot of money during the rushes. It seems to me alot of hard work, especially if they are being paid under the minimum wage. Look at all the crap they deal with. Dirty dishes, rudeness and in the end, most people don't tip the minimum! Why be a waiter or waitress?

hmm...i understand where your coming from. im only 15 and im working as a waiter as well. personally, i tried it because it was something that played on the back of mind, because of the tips and the flexibility.
but since then, ive changed my mind about my job, radically. I mean on the one day, i spilt some soup and based on the reaction i got from my manager, i thought i was gonna be fired. i get the same response from her when i make mistakes with my order.
But on the positive, these experiences really develop a thick skin in me... I have Flexibility in work times, and my co-workers are a really really great bunch of people. and i have a great time meting new people.
so i would guess, thats why people choose to be servers.

(BTW, im gonna quit my job..LOL)

Because you can make a lot of cash to take home on a good day. Even then, I think the minimum wage laws need to be changed, so that any "chain" restaurant, or restaurants with more than 10 employees, must pay at least the minimum. The original intent of having restaurants that used waiters or servers exempted from this, was to help the small "mom and pop" mainstreet cafes. This would not affect them because most have very few employees.

Because we (I'm a waiter/bartender) make so much in tips, they feel they are not obligated to give server minimum wage a bump up! It's stupid, but the way it is! Very good questions by the way!

You've gotta love what your doing, making people happy. I was paid $3.09 but at the end of the day with tips it usually averaged out to $35 an hour! I mean, some people were stingy and others really tipped. And I had cash every day. True servers love their job and know how to not get their feelings hurt by idiot rude customers.

Finally you have seen the light
Conditions like this are world wide , there seems to be an mythology that if you are creative or work with people that you should be treated like crap and get poor wages stand back and look at the jobs in which this takes place then avoid them .
As If people and creativity god bless them were reward enough ( the Shites ) And that one should be rewarded for being a bully attorney accountant etc , see what \i mean

Because when you are getting tips that means you are getting immediate cash flow. Its almost addicting to work in restaurants.
