I need to get a tax id so I can levy their bank account - how do I do this without calling them directly?

If I'm understanding your question, you're a customer who wants to levy a vendor's bank account? See an attorney. Tax ID's are pivate matters. Very few businesses voluntary give their tax ID's unless there's a requirement by IRS (e.g. employer's W2 reporting, bank's 1099 reporting). In that case, you'll have the tax ID printed on the form they provide.

Good luck.

How do you plan on "levying" their bank account?? Do you even know what you are doing??

The short answer to the question is to send them a Form W-9. That's the proper way. If they feel that you are entitled to it, the apply their ID number and return it to you.
