I sold my house last year and made a profit. The problem is that I owned the house for only 9 months. We built a new house 20 miles away because we needed more space for our baby. Is there anyway we can save taxes on the gains?

Examples: If a doctor donates a day a month to work for free for uninsured people, if a counselor donates time to counsel at a crisis center, if a carpenter donates his skills to habitat for humanity, if an audiologist does free hearing evaluations, a lawyer donates time to help parents with children with special needs to write up guardianship paperwork, etc.

At the beginning of 2006, my friend moved in with me. I rented my basement out to her for $100/week. She is a single mother and had gotten evicted from her apartment with no where to go. About half of the year, she failed to pay me. I need to know if I am able to claim her as a dependant on my taxes. I know that she will never have the money to pay what she owes (over $2,000). She also had been working part of the year at minimum wage. Am I able to do this? Technically, she has been under my roof and using my utilities. She is 27 years old. Please help! I am also a single mother, and this situation has put me in a bind also!

I have joint custody of my child and I never claimed him before because his father has always "needed" to claim him even though we are supposed to claim him every other year. I have yet to claim him. So i was wondering if i need his birth certificate to claim him. His father took that when we split.

Has anyone else noticed the blatant disregard for the rules of this site regarding personal advertising?

How many agents have provided their direct website link, office name and other personal information when it is clearly against the guidelines of this website?

I especially enjoy the agent, that is blatantly advertising, scold someone for seeking "free" information without a Realtor, when that agent is using this venue in which to advertise themselves and their company for "free". Too comedic!

This type of conduct is what gives an industry a bad reputation.

If you're not following basic guidelines here - I would hate to see you in everyday practice.
