Does the Co op have inline banking? If so so could go for that. Or try Halifax - Easycash, Natwest- step Account, Yorkshire Bank- Readycash, Post Office R Card account, Abby- Basic account, all are basic accounts with debit cards.

I got a current account with a Visa debit card from LloydsTSB without any problems, despite a bad credit history. They even gave me an overdraft too.

Also, why do you need a branch nearby? Once you have a visa debit card you can use it anywhere and do most of you banking online. The only thing you really need a branch for is to pay in cash.

Your going to have to just tough it out and get your credit back on line. Settle your debts or at least make payments on them. A great way to build a reliable history is to get your self a "secured" card. This is where you put up the money to get a credit card - you only can take out as much as you put in. The interest is terrible, the annual fees are high and it kind of ridiculous to pay interest on your own money. But if you keep the account for a year and you pay all your bills on time your credit will be a lot better. After setting your debts and being responsible for a year with a secured card, you will most likely have sufficient credit history to be able to obtain a bank account check card and other credit cards as well.

www.bankrate.com has good articles for fixing your credit and for finding a good secured card.

Try Halifax. I've got a sub-zero credit rating but I managed to get one. Follow it up with their websaver account (4.5%), and you're laughing.

i'm in the same situation and everyone declined me. you'll need to get your credit back on track then most banks will consider it. i have to make do with just a cashcard and i hate it!
