I don't know diddley about this. What is my return if I buy a CD for $1,000, 6mo, 4.00 APR, 4.08 APY? What's the calculation for this so I can figure this for myself in the future (amt x term x apr / number of cosmos in the sky = dollar bill toilet paper)?

experienced. I feel I want some sort of compensation from their flippant, lax treatment. Do you think I should try, seeing as there is so much competition around with other insurers?

Is it worth trying to join up to the Merchant Navy as a rating? I've been told that there aren't any Brits serving as ratings any more as foreign labour is a lot cheaper for the shipping companies?

Thanks!

My partner stopped claiming the above benefits 1.5 years ago.

HMRC are now asking her to repay £2,450 because she failed to return an application form (they say).

Has anyone else had a similar thing happen?
She was entitled to the money and surely the payers have a duty to chase these forms as a % will always get lost in the post?

Any tips / help appreciated.

BTW we are both full time, hard-working taxpayers, not scroungers!!

Some colleagues do or done have the correct mix of experience and qualifications and some research and other technical personnel don’t want a facilities (in house) management position due to jealous egos etc.

The research staff are fragmented small teams without common purpose all competing (to survive or shine) for lab resources (such as the technical support staff and equipment time etc.) and think its ok to fight to be able to steer and control small areas, equipment or people and that remote senior management can be kept in the dark. They would rather secretly decide or dictate (but not document) things and influence opposing directions.

Of course senior management is not fooled by this and has created this post (due to observations and statements on lack of structure, discipline all which has been the downfall of reputation, quality and accreditation).

The four year post pays around 35 to 40% more that my current permanent post.

What's your thoughts about this?

How do companies view taking on employees in their 50's if at all ? Does the new legislation (ageism) have any impact?
If your company got a cv from a person in such an age group what other factors would you consider, if the person was qualified for the job and met the requirements adequately, for him/her to be taken on board? Does pension come into the scope? etc

Thank you

I bought shares in 2 companies that have subsequently fallen in price due to fall in copper and oil prices. Should I cut my loss and sell now or wait it out? I dont need the cash but find it disheartneing to see their shares falling each week.

My boyfriend and I have been taking care of my friend's 14month-old son for the past year. The baby lives in our home (for the most part) 6 days a week and spends about 1 night a week with his mother. Although she recieves cash-aid, food-stamps and wic (which provided the formula up to Nov.06) we pay for about 98% of his expsenses ourselves; including: rent along with up-keep expenses in the apt (utilities, repairs...), food, and everything else a baby needs. Problem is, there is no legal documentation of this only our spoken agreement with his mother. I'm pretty sure his mother dosen't file taxes. Is there anyway I can file him as my dependent? Maybe file as "head of household"? ( I do support more than 50% of our household expenses) Any forms I need to fill out? Do I have any options?
