I just recently found out that I have to file a 1099 for my new job. And I am so confused on what I am going to have to pay and what would be considered as a deductible.

I read that I'll have to pay 15.3% or something in that range for SS/Medicare, I get that. But how do I know what I'll be paying in federal? And what about state and local?

Also, what kind of taxes would be considered a deductible? I get paid gas mileage, so how would I figure that? How many total miles I drive, or how much gas I put in my car? And would other stuff to maintain my vehicle be a deductible?

I'm just so confused. I've never had to manage my own faxes and pay them on my own. So if anyone knows of a good website that explains all of that, I'd appreciate it. I went to the IRS website but there's just so much there.

My friend was fired back in November of this year for having use her email for personal use (which was complaining about an Asst. Manager and the email was sent to the General Manager). This same Asst Manager is the one that went over her Managers head and got her fired.

She was smart enough to forward all the complain emails to her home address. Her concern is that since florida is a "at-will" state for employment (you can get fired for any reason) but the company policy that she signed when she first got hired states that for any first offense, (breaking email policy in this case) she gets a verbal warning, 2nd is a write up, 3rd suspension, 4th termination.

She did not get a warning - was told by her manager (who didnt want her fired) that she was told that she had to let her go. She was denied unemployment because they consider it "misconduct" & has appealed. Any chance she will win this case?

She has all the complaint emails and they still have not paid her last check

I ran up more debt than I could handle a year and a half ago. Right now, I am paying back two of them, and combined with my other bills, is leaving me with not much leftover. Another creditor (I owe them $5000) hired a law office who is bugging me for $, but I can't afford to give them payments every month, too. If I pay nothing, the debt will be off my credit in 4 1/2 years, but I risk them taking me to court. If I make small payments, it will take forever to pay off (they're still charging interest), and will be on my credit even longer. Should I file bankruptcy? What should I do?

Isn't that bad thing? I heard that doing that can charge your card each time you do that. I hope not, because I was in Wal-Mart and the girl said so many people are doing transactions today that the systems have slowed or something. Is that true or is she trying to steal my money?
