They are two or three books that talk about three generations of women. The granddaughter marries a black man that she grew up together with. They are very romantic. I think the first name of the author is Janet but I am not sure and these books date from the seventies or eighties.

I don't know if all of these are considered "classics" - but I'd like suggestions all the same. Since the end of May, I've finished Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Catcher In the Rye, Jane Eyre, and I'm a fourth through East of Eden. I'm thinking about reading others, either similar or in a branching out sort of way. Ideas? Thanks.

lets just say that you went to barns and nobels or borders at midnight on the 20th of july to pick up your copy of DH. and they told you that there had been a mistake and your reserved copy was not with this shipment. and that they were very sorry, but you would have to wait until August to pick up your copy. none of your friends will let you borrow their copies of the book. what would you do??!!!!
you wouldnt be able to get online or talk to your friends or watch tv for fear of someone spilling the beans on what happened in the final book..........ahhh! the horror!!!!

What's your favorite Novel and why?
Mine was The Stand(Either Version) because it was a classic tale of good versus evil . The imagery was just fantastic. Mother Abigail and the Walking Dude Boulder and Las Vegas Stu Redman and The Trashcan Man. Only the mind of King could come up with the premise. One of the best. What's your favorite?

I saw the movie Eragon when it came out and thought it was very interesting. Who wrote the book, as I hear it is much different and better than the movie? And what other authors write a similar genre?

I have always loved Alice in Wonderland. Recently someone told me Lewis Carroll was abusing Alice, the real girl he wrote the book for. Has anyone heard that?

I am writing a book, and there are two main characters, both male. One is popular and preppy/jock and could be on a football team, he has all the pretty girls at his heels and stuff, and he's a perfectionist. Basically, he looks like Heath Ledger (different, but thats the basic look he has going for him).
The second one is very shy, doesn't have any friends, he's skinny, girlish, no one really knows him though he loves art and poetry, and usually spends lunch time (I'm thinking of making this at a high school) in the corner with a notebook/sketch pad, and no one ever sees him eat. Basically, he's an emo kid xP Only very sweet. When people talk to him, he has a very, very, very kind voice and responds with as little as possible.
I was thinking for the second one I wanted it to be something girlish, or darkish (not TOO dark but y'know) and for the first one something common and preppish. Any suggestions would be GREAT! Thank you!

I have just read the passage in WIKIPEDIA on Daniel Defore which discusses ROBINSON CRUSOE and says, "Early critics, such as Robert Louis Stevenson, admired it, saying that the footprint scene in Crusoe was one of the four greatest in English literature, and most unforgettable."

My question is: What did RLS think were the other three scenes?

Guys, I am writing a new novella and I started to describe a lot in there. Will it be boring if I made the whole 4 or 5 paragraphs describing the place and the characters. Also, should I describe every character? you know, hair, eyes, face, lips, clothing and everything else or should I leave for the time?

I had one when I was a little kid, but I haven't used it since I was 11. I have since moved and was wondering, would any late fees or other fees be a factor in getting a new card, even if they weren't my fault, would there even still be a record of that 10 years later? Can I continue using my old card?

I read Scar Tissue in about four days. I thought that Anthony Kiedis' story was intriguing. I thought it was shocking how his dad gave him drugs when he was only 11. And also how when Anthony asked his dad if he could have sex with his dad’s girlfriend when he was only 12, he let him. I thought it was exceptionally well-written, especially the way he was able to remember every single relationship he had ever been in right down to the very last detail. And the way he described what it was like to be completely addicted to drugs, how depressed and low he felt, and then he would stop and feel great, and then just get back into it again. His words greatly inspired me, and I felt like I was able to relate to him very much. At one point, he mentions that his high school English teacher thought that he could write very well. Which makes me wonder, did he really write Scar Tissue? Who is Larry Sloman? Did he help him write it or what?
