I was reading it but have stopped because it just gets more and more boring the book. I'm at 280. I liked all his previous works. Diary is my favorite. But what's up with Haunted? He sounds like some writer trying too hard to be cult-y to attract a particular group of readers? The book just isn't right. The book doesn't get me to think unlike his previous works. Does anyone feel the same way about the book?

So many books have been made into movies. Most movies can't hold a candle to the original book. What movies do you think actually help tell the story? Are there any movies which are actually better than the book they're based on?

I'm talking great stories, deceptive plots, inspirational (and I don't mean that in an organized religion way), memorable characters, and/or escapist fiction, etc. Books you remember years later.

I'm especially interested in the nonobvious books. An out of the way book that surprises you in it's simplicity or complexity.
