I think they are about the same, they are booth great writers. But "putting me through the emotional wringer" I would have to agree with u on Dean Koonz! But if I really want to be scared Ill read King, he I think just has a talent for scaring his readers.

I've never actually read anything of Koontz though.

So, I would have to go with Stephen King.
All his stories are REALLY emotional...whether that emotion be: fear, sad, or whatever...you always have some emotion.

Have you ever read The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon by King?
When I first read it I found it to be very emotional...you felt so bad for this little girl who was lost alone and at the end when she's actually found you get this huge sigh of relief.

ever read The Mist? It's short story...it's in the book Skeleton Crew also by King.
Gosh, that book scared me! I found this to be one of the most emotional books.

I don't know. :)

Maybe I'll read some Koontz here sooon. :)

I like them both but I think King puts you through more intense feeling than Koontz. Read It or Rose Madder or Cell or Salem's Lot or The Stand or The Talisman by King and you'll see what I mean.

Koontz is more consistantly good but more predictable and he recycles his themes. King is more brilliant and versitile but he's capable of striking out.

To me it's King.
I don't know if I can explain it very wellt, but he often writes about very subtile horror, the frightening deep inside you (being helpless caught in a situation like in "Misery", losing the one you love like in "Pet cementary") and although there are a lot of horror elements to see in his novels (The Bad, vampires, and so on) there is much more that is hidden.
