It's the parents' job to help their childrens love their own bodies, to be comfortable in them and confident in them.
I met a family with a 100 lb 7 year old girl. mother was given a lot of support - father not available, older brother using drugs, no one in family willing to help change diet, etc. All good explanations but one went so far as to say, "Fat is beautiful, let her do as she wants until she grows up and choses for herself" -- not one offered her help to carry out the pediatrician's instructions!!
It's the parent's responsibility to educated their children. Mostly the mother's in the food situation and mostly the father's with gender scrambled children.
Fathers: grow a pair and stand up to the plate.
