I believe that there is a higher power, but I do not see him as the "big guy in the sky". I pray regularly, but not to the christian form of god- but rather to simply just a higher power. I find myself confused, as my family has in recent years become very active within the christian community. I feel like I would have to deny my own beliefs in order to attend church or the like, as I do not believe in the bible as written (but appreciate it as a piece of literature with SOME wonderful lessons to pull from, like aesop's fables or something).
I am curious as to the opinions of others opinions.
NOTE: I am not looking to be preached to, but instead, I am looking foward to hearing people's OBJECTIVE opinions and personal experience.

My really good friend of 10 years is getting married and she has a matron of honor and 2 maids of honor. I am one of those maids. I wasn't offended at first but lately I've been thinking about it and I feel like maybe it was an insult to my friendship. What are your ideas?

I'd class myself as an atheist.

But what about ghosts? If I were to lock you up in complete darkness in the dungeon of Edinburgh Castle, would you be scared?

If you believe in ghosts then you have to believe in souls ... there's no other option. So where do souls come from?

I have my own answer for that, but I want to see what other people say.

An old woman had 3 daughters. One day she decided to test her Sons-in-law.


One day she was walking along a lakeshore with the first son-in-law. Purposefully, she fell down in the lake and started yelling for help.


The first son-in-law jumped into the water and dragged her out into the shore.


The next day he found a brand new E Class Mercedes in his door steps with the wordings "Thank you!!!-Your Mother-in-law who loves you very much!!!"

In 1978 scientist said we were heading into what could be another ice age 2 yrs ago they said we were going to have monster hurricanes because the ocean temps were warming because of global warming now where is the ice age and where are all those monster hurricanes we were suppose to have year after year does this tell you a little something about the accuracy of the so called global warming experts?

Utorrent. I have installed utorrent to windows xp with ADSL internet connection.
My question is: why is it so slow to download to my computer?.Have I set it up correctely?
Is there a method I can use to make the download run quicker.

I recently asked a question regarding which communities in the U.S. are best for atheists to live in and got some good answers - EXCEPT for those from a couple "Christians". WHY are Christians so conceited and un-accepting of other belief systems or life-styles? Don't they realize that they're NOT making a good impression or winning converts (at least not among intelligent free-thinkers) with their smug attitudes???

I had a dream the other night that I was driving in my car, as I pressed the brakes to stop, it seemed that my car didn't want to stop and I was struggling to not let my car hit the car ahead of me.
I couldn't stop and crashed slowly into it. Next thing I know I was in the person's car that I had hit. It was my neighbor (who is a nurse) and she was lighting a ciggarette. I asked her"since when do you smoke?" and she responded that the ciggarette wasn't for her it was for her mom (who was sitting in the passenger side).
Then I woke up.
FYI: My neighbor's mom had lung cancer about a year ago (she is doing well now, though). I smoke and have been thinking about quitting...

I'm in a "Military" relationship, which means there's long periods of time that I don't see my Love...

So many people automatically assume that I'm going to cheat. They act like I'm weird, because I don't think about it...and find it repulsive that others do.

Is it really that inconceivable for someone to wait for the one they love?

To be faithful both emotionally and physically?

Also, why is it that more Military men assume that women cheat more so, than them?

My honey told me that it's more common for the wives/girlfriends to cheat, than the men.

I don't see how this is. It's probably very lopsided, since he hears horror stories from other guys.

And, I hear stories about both genders cheating. Military men and their wives.

I just don't see how people are so lost and unable to love someone enough to never consider unfaithfulness.

Any thoughts on this matter?

If something happens in infinite time and it appears random, as in, we haven't found a way to prove it was meant to happen other than it did, does that really make it random or are we just missing some of the evidence to prove it was not random?
