uTorrent can only run as fast as your maximum internet connection , plus it is heavily based on the number of Seeders and Leechers you are connected to and what their connection speed is.

You may have to Forward Ports on your modem to allow faster data throughput , although this never seems to affect my Linux systems ( only the Windows box ).

If you are using the default port on uTorrent then it is best to change it - some ISPs actually throttle the connection speed on particular ports to reduce the load placed by file-sharing. Change to a different port and your speed will increase if this is the cause.

The only times I have had slow connections is when I have picked torrents with very few seeders and leechers. Try and pick one with say 100 or more seeding and see what speeds you get then.

Torrent download speeds are dependent on how many other peers are connected. The more peers, the faster the download.

Your download speed is also tied to your upload speed. Setting your upload speed too low will reduce your download speed.

Setting your upload speed too high will consume so much of your bandwidth that your download speed will suffer.

Try capping your upload speed to 40, don't touch the download speed limit, and look for the sweet spot where your upload setting is almost to the point that your download speed is less.

Torrents are usually slow because you download your files from other people and when there isnt much people it will be slow
and when these people turn off the upload you get nothing.
