So my golden retriever is 8 years old, and she is very very sweet and loves everybody but can be a territorial about food. She was hovering over my 5 month old cats while they ate, and i was afraid she would snap at them or try to eat their food, so i gently pushed her back and she straight out lashed out at me. She made this huge growling fuss, snapping and it was pretty scary. I really havent seen her do anything like it before. I got PISSED at her and yelled at her and stood over her, shoving her outside. This got her even more mad at me and she refused to move. Eventually i got her outside.
My idea is that its a mixture of food territorialness and dominance. I am the youngest in the family, so she has always felt kind of dominant over me (not listening to me, growling when i push her, etc)
let me repeat she isnt a problem dog. she is very sweet 99% of the time.
well anyway what should i do to gain dominance? i tried the staring in her eye thing and she always ........
