New Home "prewired". Unable to get sound with TV!!
*Cables Terminate on opposite wall of TV (about 20' apart).
*I have successfully connected my TV with component cables (prewired) to my Dish Network Receiver.
*Unable to get any sound to coordinate with my TV.
*Trying to integrate audio receiver/DVD/CD home theater setup. I am able to produce sound from speakers, but only when using the radio/CD player (can never get the TV to work with the speakers).

I have tried plugging an HDMI cable into the audio receiver and the dish receiver, but that obviously did not work... Will I have to fish more cable? suggestions? Please help!!

I have a Sony Wega CRT HD Display that accepts 480p and 480i as well as 1080i through component input. Should I buy DVD player that upconverts or should I buy a dvd player that is progressive scan. I just want to know if I should invest in an upconvert dvd player or if a progressive scan dvd player will do. Thanks for the help!

I work @ RadioShack and we sell S-Video and RCA cables that are "gold plated." What's the deal with the gold-plated stuff? Is it superior? Or just a sorry excuse to charge higher amounts of money?

I'm planning on having a home theater installed in my home.
Room is roughly 15x15 in a house that is over 100yrs old.
Can someone provide me with some insight as to how pricing is generally structured?
.....What are average labor/install costs?
.....Will my equipment be more expensive if I buy it from the installing company?
I didn't really have a budget in mind, I'm simply looking for information on how the pricing is normally broken down in this business.
Many Thanks

I am after an all in one home cinema kit for my lounge, I have a 40" Sony Bravia HD TV (only 1 HDMI input!) and a PS3 which must run through the surround sound as well (room is 12'4" x 13' 1").
My budget is £300 and I am looking at the Panasonic SCPT850. Any suggestions? Cheers.

The other day i went into an AV shop to purchase the Onkyo 605. When i asked about it, the kind gentlemen showed me a Denon 2807 that was on offer for the same price.

Does anybody have any information about the Denon. Is it a better buy than the Onkyo?

Thanks in advance

If I connect an ordinary audio/video calbe to DVD coaxial output, does it really cause big loss to signal? What is the frequency range of "digital audio signal"? Is it higer or wider than video signal?

Setting up a Yamaha HTiB. The subwoofer has a speaker-type grill on the front, and a small circular opening on one side. Does it make a difference if this opening is angled against a wall, or should I place the subwoofer on the other side of the room so the opening is facing the middle of the room. I assume that the sound just bounces off the wall, but am not sure....

OK, here is the story. I had a Sony Dream Theater "Home Theater in a Box." I started getting a high pitch squeal from that system. I determined that it was coming from the receiver/dvd player. I bought a Harmon Kardon AVR247 7.1 surround sound receiver to replace it. I figured that I would be OK with the old speakers. They are 4 ohm. I am assuming that most home theater speakers would be 8 ohm. Everything seemed to work OK to begin with, but then I noticed that that the dialogue was very difficult to hear especially when watching HD channels that were encoded in true Dolby Digital. I found that when I turned off the center channel and the audio normally piped though the center channel was sent to the Front L/R it sounded much better. That's the history. The question is... Should I expect issues when using the speakers from the "Home Theater in a Box" speakers with my new receiver? Are the old speakers designed for use only with the Sony box?
