They have a lot of different codes and i HATE when a widescreen DVD smushes up into a narrow version on my regular TV.

Ideally i'd like one that plays widescreen ON my regular tv with black bars above and below the picture.

Thanks!!!

I am planning to build a home theatre in my basement. I bought a 150 inch Elite screen [M150UWH] and Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW10 Projector. Now I am contemplating on the home theatre system [receiver + speaker].

btw. I have the HDMI dvr from Verizon FIOS for cable and internet.

Any recommendation on what receiver + speakers I should buy? My budget is around $1000/-

I looked in to Bose vs harmon kardon . very confusing. I want the receiver to support all HDMI and also my computer presentation stuff.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

HP who had been a big Blu-Ray supporter and dominates the Media Center PC market, introduced a $100 HD DVD upgrade for their PCs (Sony’s Blu-Ray VIAO solution was just dropped to $749). The impact of this last move is still too early to measure but there is no comparably priced (not even close) solution using Blu-Ray. with this shift in support by hewlitt packard and microsoft being the major backer of hd dvd is it all finally over can we all buy hd dvd and be happy?

If you don't get the same brand, what technical specifications can you look for to make sure they are a good match? Or is it just a matter of what sounds good?

when i play a cd or have it just on video for the tv and turn it up past like 12 on the volume it basically shuts itself off and says unplug protect and i can't figure out why, when it does it it wont do anything until i unplug it and plug it back in and then it does the same thing again, i can't find the manual anywhere but was hoping somebody might have a clue what to try besides checkin all the connections and wires which i've already done.

Just bought a big HDTV, a 5.1 DVD Player (both from samsung), an XBox 360 and a Wii. My TV and DVD Player are hooked up by HDMI. The 360 is through the component (no HDMI on my model) with the sound going into the TV and down a Digital audio (from TV to DVD so that, in theory any sound input to the TV would be played thru the DVD speakers). My problem is that with the sound inputs going thru the TV and into the DVD vai the Digital Audio, the sound is not only delayed but also sounds slower, like a record at the wrong speed. There are inputs for most but not all of the sound inputs in the back of the DVD but using the above method I can not only avoid changing wores round all the time but get it down to one remote. I don't hold out much hope on this one as I'm not sure what I'm on about myself but any help would be very cool.
Erm, Thanks in advance!

Hi, I wanted to get my boyfriend the Planet Earth DVD set for christmas, and of course I want to get the HD version. But do I have to buy an HD dvd player for that? We have a dvd player and XBOX 360 that we usually play movies and games on.... will that not work? And is there anything else I have to buy other than the HD DVD player in order to watch High Definition dvds?

Thank you!

Im buying an HDTV as a present. Since buying HD programing like COMCAST would be to expensive, I was going to buy a HD DVD player. I found out you need to buy HDMI cables, and while searching the website I was searching for the HDMI cable, it asked if I wanted to bundle them with audio cables. Do I need to buy audio cables? I thought the HDMI cables would transfer audio too.

What provides better quality? Low-end HDMI cable or High-end component cable?

My tv is capable of 1080i but I have only one HDMI slot on the TV. Would it be better to use the HDMI for the blu-ray or the high-def cable?

I own a blu-ray DMP-BD10Ak by Panasonic. I connected HDMI cable to it and to my Tv. My Tv recognized the HDMI cable, but the blu-rau tossed up an error code saying incompatible cable. I had to look up the code in the manual. The HDMI cable setting is turned on in the Blu-Ray settings. everything should work but Blu-Ray doesnt recognize the cable. Any suggestions?
