when i play a cd or have it just on video for the tv and turn it up past like 12 on the volume it basically shuts itself off and says unplug protect and i can't figure out why, when it does it it wont do anything until i unplug it and plug it back in and then it does the same thing again, i can't find the manual anywhere but was hoping somebody might have a clue what to try besides checkin all the connections and wires which i've already done.

First of all are you giving it the proper ventilation? You now receivers put off a lot of heat because to the output of power that they have to supply, and if they are covered with little or no ventilation, the receiver will know that and to prevent a fire it will shut itself off.
Try moving it away from a poor ventilated area and sit it by itself [near the same area to help your connection], but make sure nothing, I mean nothing is covering the top of your receiver to prevent it from getting ventilation, this can cause wear on your unit quickly, Try to put it by itself, I believe this will do the trick. Absolutely nothing on top of the unit!!!

I had a similar problem with my Yamaha. I checked all connections, no problem found.

So I disconnected each end of each speaker wire, trimmed the ends, re-stripped and re-connected. Problem went away.

Another thing to try: disconnect all but the L/R speakers and see if the problem goes away. If so - suspect the center or rear speakers/wires.

Add in each speaker until the problem comes back. You either have a bad speaker wire or a internal short in one of the channels or the speaker.

If you un-plug all the speakers and turn the unit up and it shuts off - the problem is inside the receiver.
