Ok, its between this Sony, and Yamaha. There's only a couple of dollar's difference.
I listen to mostly rock music(All American Rejects, Paramore, ect)
I know about getting better sound and stuff from separate units, and making my own, but I don't feel like doing all of that. My room is medium sized, if that matters.

The Sony:

The Yamaha:

Thanks everyone.

I have a Home Theater PC and love it. Best thing I ever put together. I watch online content from netflix... youtube videos like Red vs blue ... and of course upscaled DVDs in ISO format(500+). I am moving my collection to Hard drives for convenience and to clear up space. I have thought about upgrading to HD DVD or Bluray for the better part of a year now, but I really don't feel any need to at this point. Do I get the bug.. yes every now and then, but I talk myself out of it because of the little bang for the buck I have seen.

I have the comcast with HD on demand. I have watched the first five minutes of many movies to see the difference in PQ and I am not saying there isn't, but I don't think it is all that it is made out to be. DVD quality still looks just fine to me. If I were watching a slow moving still film, I may notice the difference more, but differences are less noticeable in moving scenes (Do I really want to see acne on Jessica Alba in F4?)

I have a 5.1 speaker system with a non-powered subwoofer. I am looking to purchase a newer home theater receiver but most of these receivers have what looks like a phono/coaxial plug for subs. Can I splice the wires of my sub into a male phono jack to plug into this?

we are remodeling the home, and want to take the opportunity to add speakers, and connect all tv's to a system that will allow us to connect to our computer, radio and cable.
Not a home theater, but at multiple locations the house.
Thx mariano

I have a harmony remote and would like to know what the "safest" order is to power things on. My satellite box, receiver and TV are all connected with HDMI cables.

I've been looking around at HDMI cables and there are many to chose from. I can spend between $15 and $100 per cable. What's the difference in these cables? Will I get a higher quality picture from a more expensive cable? Here is one site I was looking at http://www.myincipio.com/category/5_hdmi_cables/

Also, I need advice or ideas on consolidating my dvd collections on one unit so I can pick and play on my plasma at anytime. Ex. apple tv (not all movies are dvd quality). I was thinking of purchasing the ps3 but should I hold out till the battle between blu-ray and hd-dvd is done? I believe in spending my money wisely...

I would like to buy a home theater system but it cost a lot compared to my budget. My option are to assemble it buying a 5.1 channel amplifier and 5 separate speakers and a sub woofer. I'm in doubt, will it produce the same quality sound as the pre-made home theater system?
