CD inherently plays 2.1 channels only. Even if you've a receiver with all channels available (5.1 to 7.1), a CD will only limit to 2.1 output. Some receivers have features like DSP, etc. then follow Sirbobx suggestion. 5.1 channels are used mostly for movies, TV shows, etc.

Some receivers have "DSP" options like "Hall, Jazz", etc. that will take the 2 channel sound from a CD and do tricks to send some sounds to the center and rear speakers.

Check your owners manual for the amp to see if it has this feature. Sometimes this does not work for the "aux" input so you may have to hook the CD player to the "CD" input.

Without know more regarding is it a 2 or 4 ch amplifier or a 5.1 receiver?
Sounds like you have a 2 channel, if your looking for surround sound including a sub then a receiver is what you will need.
