Hi, I wanted to get my boyfriend the Planet Earth DVD set for christmas, and of course I want to get the HD version. But do I have to buy an HD dvd player for that? We have a dvd player and XBOX 360 that we usually play movies and games on.... will that not work? And is there anything else I have to buy other than the HD DVD player in order to watch High Definition dvds?

Thank you!

First off yes you do need an HD-DVD player to play the HD DVD's. The XBox 360 can be used to play HD DVD's if you buy the adapter for it. The difference between the blue ray and the HD DVD is essencially name brand. They each have a proprietary playing system so to play blue ray you need a blue ray player to play HD DVD you need an HD DVD player. The only other thing to consider is your TV. If your TV doesn't display at least 720p you aren't going to get the full effect of the HD experience. :)

I would also be careful to ensure you have the right cables to connect whatever you buy to your receiver/TV. It is annoying to buy a new DVD player and can't watch it in HD because all you have is crappy RCA or S-video cables.

YES, you MUST have an HD-DVD player to play HD-DVD's and you MUST have a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player to play superior Blu-Ray Movies
