I've finally added a ported 12" polk subwoofer to my home theater system; the rest of the system comprises of polk center, front and rears powered by a yamaha receiver. I've played around with positioning of this new sub and oddly found that it sounds best, produces the strongest and cleanest 'thump' facing away from the sitting area, ie facing the corner/wall.
It's located in the front left corner of the room, about 1 1/2 feet from each wall, the right side of the 'system area', opens into a larger portion of the room, but that area is outside the "system", ie the room is shaped like a short L with the home theater area being in the leg of the L.
I started with the sub facing toward the viewers, as is common, but on a whim a friend spun it around and it's undoubtedly better.
I get that sound bounces and the walls are creating this effect, but is this common for a ported sub? Is it just reflecting better due to the positioning of it and the wall vs a straight shot at the listeners?

I'm getting ready to move into my condo and I'm still trying to figure out how to setup the television in the room. The condo is very open with Cathedral Ceilings. The television is going to go downstairs below the loft in a room roughly 12x9 (so the distance to where it would projected is roughly 9ft and I would build a shelf on the wall).

I'm hoping to put the television over the fireplace. However, there are no electrical or cable feeds over there. Rather paying a lot of money to have them run over there, I was thinking about just using a projector. I don't watch a lot of tv so I thought this would be a good solution.

Good idea? Bad? How many lumens should I get? Looking to stay under $1k. I'm also not sure how bright the room can be. It's going to be projected on to the wall opposite of where the light comes in but I'm not sure if that will help. The room is naturally bright because there are two 10ft of glass on both sides of the fireplace.

i am looking to upgrade my home theater and keep extra spending at bay. I came across this receiver/dvd system at best buy.com and liked the price and the rave reviews it was getting. i have a projector, and right now i am only able to use component input through an adapter onto the back of my projector (Infocus x1a). I was looking at the back of the receiver and dvd player on best buy site and am wondering how i am going to hook it up? what cables do i need? for instance, i would use a monster component cable to hook the dvd player up to the projector, but how does the receiver connect to the dvd player? what cables does this require? and does this lose any quality in sound and video quality? i need help from somebody that knows this stuff...thanks! The product code for the Pioneer System is HTP-2950DV and it would be hooked up to an Infocus x1a projector (through an adapter i purchased through infocus). PLEASE HELP!

I'm trying to find remote control codes of my (broken) Hitachi clu-691gr remote control...I have a universal remote control program on my sony ericcson which programs INDIVIDUAL BUTTONS using .irc files. It has no problem absorbing directly from working remotes but this one is broken.

Do you guys know of any way I can download FREE--and this is important too--the code of the hitachi clu-691gr with most of the special functions included ("Menu" funciton, for example)?

(And no, I don't want to buy a new one...)

Thanks guys and Happy Holidays!

Does anyone know the code to enter into a RCA universal remote (RCU400) to let it control a govideo DVD/VCR player (DV2130)?

http://tinyurl.com/2m2vzz is the site with support for this remote, but I don't see govideo in the list...

And believe it or not, I can't find an official customer support site for the dvd player! If you find one of those that would be helpful too.

I can get sound from the DVD player when I switch it to the input it's on. Now the problem is I can't get audio from my surround sound (since it's on different inputs) when I'm watching TV using the satellite receiver. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My Pioneer Receiver (Pioneer VSX-406)

Dvd/VCR Combo (Panasonic PV-D47320)

i'm looking into getting an HDMI receiver, and i need some help. What i want is a single HDMI output. I want any input (hdmi, component, etc.) to be output through hdmi (both audio and video). the goal being that i have a single hdmi out to my HD tv, with all audio going through the receiver.

i know that hdmi passthrough will not work, as it will only pass hdmi in signals to the hdmi out.

so, the basic question is, what receivers out there upgrade other video signals to hdmi?

any help would be appreciated.

I just got my surround sound system and I'm trying to hook it up to work with my 360 and my new 1080p LCD. What I tried was the xbox HDMI cable to the surround sound HDMI-In input and outputted the component (red, white, yellow) cables to the TV since I didn't have an HDMI cable on hand. I had sound but no picture. I am going to get another HDMI cable to output it to the TV (from the surround sound amp) but I don't see what the difference will be since the component cables didn't work (as far as no picture goes). And if I do get the picture, will it still be the same quality being run through an amp?

Maybe the HDMI output from the amp will do the trick but how has everybody else done it?

I have an HD DVD player and recently added a Blu Ray as well to my setup. I am confused about the new hi def audio formats and was wondering if someone could explain them to me. I was under the impression that DTS- HD is the best, with Dolby Tru HD next in line, than PCM uncompressed, and finally Dolby Digital Plus. Is this correct, or is there features that some offer that are better than the others. I guess I also don't totally see the difference between PCM, Tru HD, and Dolby Plus.

Thanks you!!!

Does 1 RCA plug from the DVD Player's COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT to the Reciever's COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO IN work the same or better than using all 6 RCA Plugs including the SUBWOOFER OUT into the Reciever? And if so how does that work ? Wouldn't 6 be better than 1. And also why would they make the 6 RCA plugs for on the back of DVD Players or Recievers? Why not just have the COXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO?
