Does 1 RCA plug from the DVD Player's COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT to the Reciever's COAXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO IN work the same or better than using all 6 RCA Plugs including the SUBWOOFER OUT into the Reciever? And if so how does that work ? Wouldn't 6 be better than 1. And also why would they make the 6 RCA plugs for on the back of DVD Players or Recievers? Why not just have the COXIAL DIGITAL AUDIO?

With one cable (the output is called s/pdif) the Receiver is doing all the work - taking 5.1 channels and decoding it.

With 6 cables, the DVD player is doing all the decoding. This is for people with no AV receiver. Since you have an AV receiver, just use the coax output.

Most of the time the digital coaxial out is a good compromise. However, if you have a player that plays SACD or DVD-Audio, those formats only output through the analog cables to your receiver. This is because these formats will play the music uncompressed for higher fidelity. If you do not have a SACD or DVD-Audion player than use the coaxial digital out or the optical digital out.
