I can get sound from the DVD player when I switch it to the input it's on. Now the problem is I can't get audio from my surround sound (since it's on different inputs) when I'm watching TV using the satellite receiver. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What I did with my system is I connected my TV using my component output on my sat receiver and my DVD player. I don't have an HDMI hookup on my TV so I don't use it. I also do not run my video through my receiver because I don't always want my receiver on. I don't need my receiver on for the news.
So. Hook each source up to your TV using the available inputs on your TV. Use the component or HDMI. These will provide the best picture quality.
If you use the HDMI output on your SAT and DVD to your TV's HDMI input then you should use the digital audio output from the DVD and SAT to your receiver. Do this for both your SAT and DVD. You should have enough connections on your tv. HDMI carries the audio so you should not need any additional audio cables connected to your tv for HDMI connections.
If you use the Component video connection to connect to your tv you will have to run the left (white) and right(red) analog audio outputs to your tv also. Do this for your DVD and SAT. Then... connect the DIGITAL audio output from those sources to your receiver. It will either be coaxial digital or optical. This arangement will give the most flexibility. You have 5.1 from your receiver when you want it. And you won't have it when you don't want it. You'll have stereo sound from your tv. If you connect all your video and audio through your receiver you will have to have it on all the time. Basically I connect all my video to my TV directly and my analog audio to my TV also I then connect my digital audio to my receiver. I also connect my anolog audio out from my tv to my receiver along with the digital out from my tv to my receiver. I do this because I also use an antennae. This way I can get 5.1 to my receiver when I watch HD programming such as CSI or primetime movies. I can then have high quality audio from my terrestrial antennae. I hope this helps.

you incredibly do no longer choose something distinctive for a flat demonstrate television evaluate to a non-flat demonstrate television. in case you prefer encompass sound, all you incredibly need is something which could decode dolby digital, has a first rate sort of audio inputs, and a minimum of helps 5.a million encompass sound. 6.a million and seven.a million are available, yet actual, they do no longer look to be being utilized by employing something yet blu-ray ideal now or perhaps once you do get a blu-ray with actual 7.a million encompass help, i'm no longer even specific if it will make that a selection of of a distinction whilst in comparison with 5.a million - fairly in case you're conversing some smaller room. i found a robust value on a 7.a million receiver, yet I in simple terms have 5 audio gadget related to it ideal now. i don't understand if i'm going to ever improve to 7.a million yet a minimum of I even have the alternative. I agree total heartedly that domicile Theater In a field (HTIB) kits are no longer a thank you to circulate here. the main concern with them is they in many situations incorporate decrease priced audio gadget, and don't incorporate a actual receiver, making it impossible to connect up extra contraptions on your audio gadget. be sure you circulate with a separate receiver, and then purchase your audio gadget. i'm pleased with paying for a series of audio gadget and subwoofer, in simple terms be sure to objective them out in the shop. How plenty you will would desire to spend will oftentimes count on the dimensions of your room and the constructive properties you would be wanting. you may get a 5.a million receiver for as low as $a hundred and twenty, and a series of audio gadget for yet another $one hundred, or you are able to circulate excessive end, and spend $10-20k on in simple terms a pair of front audio gadget. My suggestion, arise with the cheap, and shop around.
