When a person starts asking the questions you are asking, it is time to seek professional help for depression. Every person experiences sadness but if it lasts more than thirty days or is constantly reoccuring, then the person needs an educated professional in mental health to be the support to help them find solutions. Some times that solution is just counseling while other times it is the added support of medication.

There is nothing wrong with being smart enough to reach out for help!

The brain produces a chemical called phenethylemine when people are in love, sex, etc. When depressed this natural occurrence is blocked. Chocolate has not only phenthylemine, but also a natural source of caffeine ( part of the xanthine group) and several other drugs that act as vasoconstrictors. These elevate blood pressure, diuretic and act as bronchodilators and can possibly be attributed to serotonin uptake.
In other words there are times long after the sad events when the chemicals of erasing the bad expectations for sex and love were released into the spinal fluid. This is the cause of them nasty feelings that tear through your whole being and bring you to fear life.. PM me to share your bad times and be sure of support.
So yes, chocolate can make you feel better when depressed but as with most drugs after the breakdown (crash) you sometimes feel worse.

I think you should talk to your family doctor or if a student go to the student health center. If you have been through a lot maybe you need someone to talk to. Sometimes you don't want your friends to know, so get your doctor to make a referral. Some times depression is normal and nothing to be ashamed of. So do whatever it is you need to do.

When you can't function daily. Like doing your routine things which you do everyday. Also, avoiding people and not being social.

Seek HELP! But you can seek help at anytime. Look for things which can make you happy. Work on small tasks which don't risk your happy out look in life.

I agree with black... I'd also add that your school nurse will have resources for you to take advantage of. Just go and talk to them about it. If you aren't in school, http://depression_resources.tripod.com/ I found this by googling "depression resources". There were many other sites, this is just an example.

Good luck and if you need more help you can reach me through my profile. :)

If it's interfering with having a normal life, that's when you need to seek help.
