If the"truths" in the bible contradict another truth what should we do i.e. Turn the other cheek then / an eye for an eye

If god has control over people why did he have so many centuries of slavery?

Well I am not trying to complain here...just trying to understand how to deal with a mom in law who always makes rules. I am forced to become 'the obidient' daughter in law everytime she makes the rules. I dont mind if she interferes in the big decisions...but not in every small detail of my life!! ...even about what i wear! for God's sake ..dont you feel its too much interference in ones life!!
I really dont want to say anything bad to her...cos i know thats the way she is bought up...how do i intelligently deal with this...how do i become a little more assertive and still not hurt her feelings!?!? Please help.
And my mil has come to visit me here for a couple of months and am having hell of a time dealing with her!

I just recently got engaged! We are both sooo excited, and havnt started the real planning yet but just throwing idea's around. I have an 8mo (future) niece, she is the only little girl on both sides of our family. We are planning an August 2008 wedding , so she will be two years old by then. Has anyone had flower girls this young? I understand she may not do exactly what she's supposed to which is fine, or get down the aisle in a straight line, haha, It's just important to me to include her because she is so special to us, what do you think??

and, if we have a flower girl, must we have a ring bearer? We have a shortage of small children in the family! haha

This question/statement is not originally mine but I thought I would state it to see the point of view and logic behind other people's reasoning. My take on reciprocal killing or the death penalty is that whether through a criminal justice sytem or in a war an eye for an eye unfortunatley many times leads for other's eyes for eyes even if innocent. It can breed rage, and vengeance which many believe (but do not practice) is reserved for the Lord. If we have faith, those who believe in mercy in any way, why do we look to hurt our enemies? Was not Saul a killer?

I have no job. I've been unemployed for nearly 3 years. I live in urban Detroit. I am going to a community college for Information Technology. I have $300 in the bank and my fiance has around $500. I attend a mostly Black church and there is a handful of people who are notorious for wearing their bluetooth in church. ALL WOMEN.

They get dressed in the morning and put on stockings, dress, earrings-- bluetooth? The pastor has just lightly touched on the issue on a couple of occassions but people continue to do it.

Let me give you an example of why this is bad. At church one day I walked up to a lady that I knew and began speaking to her. I gave her a hug and said hello, how are you, etc. After a few seconds I realized she looked 'disconnected' from me and she wasn't answering me. Then she raised her finger and tapped her ear to indicate that she was on the phone. I felt small.

I am 22 yrs old and hubby is 24 yrs old.We have been married a 1.5 yrs our relationship was always on again off again mixed in with love-hate.I just graduated from college and he is in the air force currently in England.To get to the point at one of his friends bachelor party's he got drunk and had sex with one of the strippers.Our relationship got really nasty after this he went to England saying he would do as he pleased.Out of revenge i went and had fling with an ex.bf got pregnant .I am 6.5 months pregnant not told anyone and hidding it .My hubby is being transfered and comes home in 2 months he says he wants to work things out but i dont think this applies.

What is the history behind this amendment? What did the drafters intend? Specifically, what is the meaning of the first clause of the sentence, and what did "a well-regulated militia" mean at the time of drafting? Do earlier drafts of the amendment, and debates, shed any light on this?

Yes, I could do the research myself, but this is my favorite kind of question to ask - it invites "advocates" on all sides to present their case, for all to see.

Any citations, etc, would be welcome.

Don't try to guess my views. I want to know yours - and most importantly, the drafters'!
