Maybe he's trying to be affectoinit, or he just wants his tummy rubbed. Some cats like that. I know mine does.

I agree w/ all those who say he's relaxed and trusting. That's a fact cats do that under those conditions.

Though if you have some money to throw at a Vet's office visit, it might be worth it to see if he/she's not developing a back problem. I had a cat who started doing the back-thing and he ended up having severe back problems that, among other symptoms, ended up killing him.

Again, ONLY an outside chance. But if you have $ to spend on peace of mind, why not? Especially if your buddy hasn't been in a while.

I read in a cat behavior book that if a cat lies on its back then, the cat just wants to play or have fun. I tried this with my cat and he just wants to play when he lays on his back.

The belly is the most vulnerable part of a cat. In a serious fight between two cats you'll notice that they use their back claws to scratch the other's belly. For a cat to expose their belly it is a sign of trust. He's giving you the ultimate compliment by showing that he is totally relaxed in your company.

My female cat sleeps on her back all the time and loves to have her belly rubbed. Our male cat on the other hand, won't allow you to touch his belly at all.

Most likely, it means that you have a happy and contented kitty. Barring any signs of physical discomfort (noticeably ill, doesn't want to be touched, lethargic), he's just chillin' out enjoying life.

Cats lie on their backs in the presence of those they love and trust (since they are exposing their vital midsection) and he is content in the fact that no harm will come to him. He may also lie on his back in the presence of a threat in your house, like a dog or a larger, meaner cat - this is his way of submitting to the alpha animal.

If you have no threats in your house and your cat seems well, he's just a happy camper lounging around as cats do. :-)

It means that life is a long road full of forks. Each fork brings a decision, and that decision will ultimately lead to a different place in your life. Sometimes you make the right decision. Sometimes you make the wrong one. Few of these decisions seem like much at the time, but where you ultimately end up in life is completely dependent on each and every one of those choices.

Cats only expose their stomachs when they feel very secure (it is the most vulnerable part on their body). You should feel honored that your cat trusts you that much :)

That he is content, and that he trusts you. Showing the tummy is their ultimate show of trust, even if they aren't right next to you. My cats also do that when they are sunning or relaxing.

It means that he prefers that position.:) Perhaps that is how he is the most comfortable. I lay on my back when I go to sleep and I am pretty sure that it doesn't "mean" anything, lol.
