It's just the way the technologies evolved. The us used to use 25 cycle for a while.

The USA adopted early. In the early days electricity was mainly used for lighting. There were not any large domestic energy guzzling appliances. 110V is a very poor choice for air conditioning units and tumble dryers etc. 220V can take double the power with the same size of cable.

The size of insulator depends on voltage if 110 v size will be reduce,size of inductor core reduced when increase in Frequancy and its design constarins become more optimum for this supply and hence 110v,60Hz supply also from the starting they are used to same above the dont want to change that

Free Trade Agreements would make that "protectionist" which would make hate America politicians angry. Currently most all industrial countries are running to protect their home industries, which will cause more protectionism by their trading partners and cycles out of control. Just review what happened between 1928 and 1938 and you get a good picture if what protectionism does in a world economy.

110v the American Standard established circa 1880 is the most efficient voltage for incandescent lights, the original use for electricity. 220v established circa 1900 Germany is more efficient for voltage transmission,saving on electricity and copper.
