This question/statement is not originally mine but I thought I would state it to see the point of view and logic behind other people's reasoning. My take on reciprocal killing or the death penalty is that whether through a criminal justice sytem or in a war an eye for an eye unfortunatley many times leads for other's eyes for eyes even if innocent. It can breed rage, and vengeance which many believe (but do not practice) is reserved for the Lord. If we have faith, those who believe in mercy in any way, why do we look to hurt our enemies? Was not Saul a killer?

I think we all know that killing is wrong before something like this happens --
i mean, probably a big reason the shooter did what he did is because he knew how unacceptable it was and how severe the consequences to those affected

We don't kill people to show that killing is wrong
We kill people to show that THAT KIND of killing is wrong.
For example:
DP applies to:
--killing a cop
--lieing in ambush
--hiring a murderer
--torture or extremely cruel murder

If we killed everyone who killed anyone, many doctors would be dead. It's the FORM of killing (i.e., murder in a specially reserved category) that the DP applies to.

In some countries, if a man steals, the people band together and cut off his hands, if he rapes, he is castrated. If he kills, he is killed. There is little crime in these countries because of this. It does say, "An eye for an eye," in the bible.

It doesn't make sense to me either. However, some people feel that some people are just too evil to live. I don't know how I would feel if a loved one of mine was a victim though.
