We are newlyweds in our early 30s. I grew up 40mins north of detroit (Birmingham area) but haven't lived there in 10+ yrs...and my husband and I are going to be back in Birmingham for Christmas for 6 days (note - my husband is not from the area). Does anyone have any good suggestions of things to do (or events going on) in the area (downtown detroit, royal oak, birmingham, etc), daytime or nightime?? I want to keep busy and want my husband to have a nice time! Thanks so much for the help!!

I'm looking to board my horse and also hoping that I can find a stable in the Detroit area. I also was curious if boarding my horse at a stable entitled me to riding whenever I wanted without paying for lessons. Also if any of this helps you: I've been riding for about a year total, I ride western best and am hoping to find english stables so I can try it.

When I was a kid I remember going to the soo-locks, visiting the Cross in The Woods seeing Paul & Babe The Big Blue Ox, Going Deer Acres, or visting Huckleberry Rail Road & Green Feild Village. My friend Frank wants to move to Detroit because he believes the City of Detroit has a great economy. He also believes that Detroit is filled with entertainment, nightlife, and has excellent mass transportion. He has never been to Detroit and he believes Detroit is like Miami (where he currently lives).

Our Gangs are merely harmless and Prostitution isn't a problem unless you put yourself in that seat. PLus, THe chances of you getting shot randomly are slim to none. Also, let's mention that I've seen more mainstreams crimes in World Class Cities than anywhere. NYC and Chicago's gangs are something to be reckoned with. Someone from Detroit who lived in Charlotte got held at gunpoint 4 times while not once in Detroit. I guess people only care about their possessions rather than their lives.
