what a broad question, It is much like any other city in the Midwest. It has a very nice and safe downtown areas that is frequented by many suburbanites. The rest of the city is somewhat desolate in terms of people living there. The great white flight and the great black flight contributed to this. Most of the economy is built on manufacturing and auto suppliers. It has a true four season weather, it is home to the best sports teams in America. It offers a number of world class museums, and is home to a large number of soulfull musicians. It has a large airport which is a hub for northwest and was dubbed the best in overall customer satisfaction in 2007 by JD Powers. It is the 10th largest airport in the US and is the 19th busiest airport in the world. I hope this helps.

It is a large US city and like all large cities has it's good and bad areas. The past 3 mayers have been very active at rehabilitating the city, but there are still areas which would be considered by many to be unsafe. The suburban areas are beautiful, the interstates well maintained, there are great museums, fine restaurants, great local music, especially jazz and soul. There are many very fine local artist and art museums. There are sections of town like the greek section where people go for greek food/culture, and there are some for many other cultures. Internationally famous designer and artist Dominic Pangborn is spearheading the funding and completion of an Asian Village for people to enjoy the food and culture of the Asian countries. They have all the major professional sports represented though the quality of the teams is debatable. Air traffic into and out of the city is dependable. I would say suburban Detroit area, say Birmingham would be a great place to live/visit

Detroit is a BIG city. Downtown is great. You can feel safe walking around at any hour, it's clean, and there are lots of things to do no matter what you are in to (Casinos, Sports, Clubs (Jazz, Blues, Dance, Rock, etc...)).
When you get out of that area on the other hand, you are on your own. There are many burnt down houses, and scarry blocks to drive down. There are many industrial areas that have been abandoned. These are the areas that are portreyed in many movies (8 mile, assault on precinct 13, robocop (he he))
I don't mean to turn you off, the downtown area is easy to get in and out of without going through these areas, I'm just saying "Dont get adventourous!"

That's not a very specific question, but...,
TOP 3 Things:
1. Great sports town with great stadiums. (Ford Field and Comerica Park anyway.)
2.The downtown area is MUCH improved in the last 15 years.
3.World class art museum. (Detroit Institute of Arts. aka. DIA)

A lot of talent come from this place called motorcity, motown or the D. It has casinos. you can see windsor, canada just across the river. Its good to see my home town coming back and offering much more to do and our doors are open to all visitors. No need to worry just have a great time. My home is your home. Everyone is welcomed.

Detroit is no place for a princess. It is dark, it smells, it has lots of crime, and it has the highest sexually transmitted disease infection rate in the country. I am not making this up. Stay in your palace.
