My friend Frank wants to move to Detroit because he believes the City of Detroit has a great economy. He also believes that Detroit is filled with entertainment, nightlife, and has excellent mass transportion. He has never been to Detroit and he believes Detroit is like Miami (where he currently lives).

How do I convice my friend to stay in Miami and not move to Detroit?

When I said Miami, I meant Miami, Florida. .

One of the reasons my friend want to move to Detroit from Miami is because he does not like the hurricanes in Miami. I have tried to tell him to relocate to Chicago because at least Chicago has a strong economy, good transportation, and entertainment with a nightlife scene.

Right now, he should start looking at Detroit news look at the legal problems Michigan in general is having financially, especially Detroit. Tell him to do that for about a month, excessive research on it yourself if you want and then have him read it and then if he stills wants to try it, fine.
Detroit is by no means like Miami, Fl. I've lived in Detroit all my life and stayed in Miami, Fl for over two months before and there is no comparison. Detroit absolutely does NOT have excellent mass transportation. You'd be lucky to find a cab let alone the unsafe city bus being on time and they don't go everywhere and are usually filled with teenage kids in the early morning and late afternoon who seem like they have no sense or respect for elders.
Chicago is a much better choice. I've spent time there as well and now I can say they have all the excitement and excellance your friend is seeking in a new city. NO to Detroit. I wish I could move.

Lets not get too mixed up. Detroit is a great city that is filled with entertainment and nightlife. It has excellent sports teams, although it is lacking big time in mass transportation. In some ways it is similar to Miami (crime, demographics, and minority percentages). The economy is lagging here but that is only in our largest industries. There are still jobs here. There is a lot of money to be made here especially as an entrepreneur. You have the ability to get in on the ground floor.

It is right though that without friends, family, or support you cannot be successful in any city. I hope it works out for the both of you. I am sure he knows about the weather and if he wants to go it is very hard to stop him. I have lived in constant 70 degrees and sunny and it can get old.

have him visit detroit and chicago before he puts a down payment on somewhere to live. the mass transportation in detroit is not that good. it is the motor city. you couldn't get by without a car around here. there is a good nightlife. it is just not in one central place. you really have to find out what is good on what nights in all the surrounding suburbs and the city. Hurricanes do suck, but those last a week at the most, winter lasts for 7 months out of the year.

LOL but as you can see no one here will say that except for the one person who wants to go to Hawaii where the cost of living is over the top and the homeless set up tents on the beach-thanks but i will pass on that one!

Detroit is similiar to Miami-the biggest differences will be the weather and ironically enough the richest retirees here live in FL in the winter but come back to Michigan in the summer when the 5 great lakes and countless river beat out an oceanfront. then there are the people-we are not mean, we dont cut you off and if you are lost we will try to help you
i love chicago and i love ny too but detroit is home and i would never tell someone not to come here. it will be hard but as long as they dont look for a job in the auto industry, try and insurance company instead or a utility co they should be fine

Friends are important but ultimately one has to live life for themselves even twins dont make their earthly debut together and when you leave this life you will make that journey as an individual

hope this helps your friend, unfortunately i cant help you :-(

I know for a fact that Detroit is a good city for u if you want lots of entertainment. I will say that the D has it low points:buses can be slow and crowded at times, but they can also be fast and kinda empty. There aren't a lot of jobs, but you could get one in another city and Detroit doesn't have hurricanes so that is good!

As a native Detroiter I can assure you that you are right, Frank does NOT want to move here. While the night life and entertainment is great, and even getting better, the local economy is one of the worst in the country. I just lost my job in the automotive industry, as have thousands of others this year. Michigan is in a one-state depression: taxes are high and increasing (our Governor is a moron), there is no mass transit system to speak of (we have the People Mover downtown, pretty useless) and the weather is crappy 8 months out of the year. I'm moving to Hawaii.

Lol! Detroit is no Miami, FL, that's for sure...but it isn't bad. Just make sure he doesn't go to the east side. That is where the real danger lies. I have family over there and I hate visiting.

Tell him to watch the news. I live about 40 miles north of Detroit and find it economically depressed and rundown . The city is corrupt and the casinos seem to be the high spot

regrettably, i think of attempting to convince them to no longer circulate is a waste of a while and power. you would be greater useful off putting that element and power into mentally preparing for the circulate. this is continually stressful at first, yet that situation fades quickly. while you're a delightful guy or woman, this is common to fulfill new pals. you will constantly have your previous pals. each time you progression or meet a sparkling team of people, this is a enhance danger for you which will repay later in life. that would sound cliche', yet have faith me.. this is actual!
