Where isn't there a good place to go in Michigan?? I'm biased but that's OK :)

Here are some good places to check out with kids :

Travers City - Great Wolf Lodge is AWESOME! and The Clock restaurant has really good chocolate chip pancakes...Yum:)

Frakenmuth - Who doesn't love shopping at Bronners and walking through River Place with all the cool shops and things to do. Fall is one of the best times too because of the colors and all the fall/Halloween festivities.

Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum - That place is just ment to enjoy as a family! I love the glass blower and carousel at the village. Don't forget they have IMAX there too.

Detroit Science Center - Another IMAX screen and LOTS of hands on things to do. It's so much better than it was now that it's been upgraded.

Mackinaw Island and the Big Mac Bridge - It's out of season for tourists now and you can get Awesome deals! Mission Point Resort has things to do all year around as does the Grand Hotel. Bundle up and enjoy a weekend away walking the fort, the candy shops and taking horse and buggy rides.

For next summer:

Michigan Renaissance Festival - Always fun, specially if you're in costume! You kids can get knighted, make their own souvenirs and watch really cool shows like the Joust and Story time with the Queen.

Camping with Yogi Bear - Jellystone Park campground in Holly is lots of fun. Watch your picnic baskets though!

Lake Michigan Shoreline - Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Dune Climb, miles of sandy beaches for swimming and sun tanning. Sliver Lake for Dune buggy rides and ATV rentals...yea its lots of fun in the sun!

So yea, that's how I spent my summers as a kid. I also did all the stuff you mentioned, the Locks, Cross in the Woods, Taquamin Falls, ect. Just get out and enjoy it all with your kids. It's lots better than sitting in front of the TV and will give them a lifetime of memories:)

Hello fellow Michigander! I love the west side of the state. My mom lives out by Holland, MI and we love going to Lake Michigan in the summer. The Porcupine Mountains are beautiful as well as the Upper Peninsula. I went to the Keewanaw Peninsula (the most norther point in Michigan) and it was breathtaking! We saw black bears cross the road, and tourists literally parked by the dump to see them stroll in at dusk. My uncle and I fished on secluded lakes and my cousins and I swam in shallow creeks with little waterfalls. Michigan Adventure which is out by Muskegeon I believe is a load of fun. Cedar Point bought them out a few years ago and they have an amazing water park. I think it's like $23 bucks for the water park and theme park. My parents used to take us camping up at Lake Superior when we were really little and I have fond memories of that. Sagutuck and Grand Haven (Lake Michigan) are a lot of fun. My in-laws always have the family pass for Green Field Villiage and we go there a couple times a year. (they go almost every other weekend!) Traverse city is great especially during the Cherry Festival and who doesn't know about Mackinaw Island?

My kids love going to Greenfield Village and Henry Ford year round.

Frankenmuth is wonderful and if you stay overnight make sure to have breakfast at Tony's.

Mackinaw is probably about to close for the season but when the colors turn is awesome.

Tequaminon Falls (sorry for spelling) is a fantastic area to visit, the area is fantastic to hike through.

Whitefish point in the Up, The Shipwreck museum is there and tells the stories of ships on Lake Superior, including the Edmund Fitzgerald.

You left out Dinosaur Gardens up along US-23. And Cascade Falls over by Jackson. Too bad I never got a chance to see the Space Museum. It closed up. And don't forget about Hell, Michigan near Lansing. Especially in winter when it freezes over. Never did see much about Battle Creek, but both Kellog and Post cereals are from there. I've never stopped there, but coming up I-75 toward Detroit, you pass near Monroe, Michigan, which says that it's the hometown of General George Custer who kicked the bucket in South Dakota when Sitting Bull made a patsy out of him.

And I understand there's a nuclear power plant right there, too, so you can the kids can go home and show off the glow in your hair.

It depends on the time of the year. In the summer I recommend Grand Haven state park and the boardwalk, Fennvalley vineyards the big mac bridge, the blue water bridge. If your bold try lake of the clouds, black river harbor and it's five nearby water falls. Ten their is always Greenfield Village, and the state capitol. There is a ferry to Beaver Island.
There is the pictured rocks. Copper Harbor is beautiful.

Drive along the eastern coast of Michigan up to Mackinaw Island is really nice. Especially now with the fall leaves. There are sand dunes to visit as well on the way. If you want to go a little further north, to the Upper Peninsula and see the Buffalos roam. If you are in the mood to gamble, go to Detroit , and they have great casinos. AND YES IT IS SAFE!!

Mackinac Island, hands down. Had a great time there when I was little, and went back a few years ago (as an adult) and still had a fabulous time!! If you think the hotels on the island are too pricey, just stay right across the bridge - you can take a ferry across - they have them going all day long.

Have fun!

Mackinaw Island
Traverse City

Those are great places for families to relax and enjoy Michigan. When I took my kids up to Traverse City for a week in a cabin on a lake they told me it was better than when I took them to Disney.
