I got a terrible handwritten poetry rejection from a market I can't identify. I get rejection letters on slips or with cover letters. But this is hand written on a scrap piece of paper with terrible handwriting. It's in Detroit Michigan with the zip of 48225. The address in 1335 N. Canbarna or something like it. I can't identify the town, other than the Detroit date stamp. Do you know any markets from that area? At mapquest, it said Detroit and Harper Woods. I know this isn't a travel-related question, but Michigan residents might help me out, I hope.

I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and would be willing to drive (not fly) drive up to 5-6 hours one way from where we are. I need ideas for places to go and things to do for our very 1st anniversary together. We are willing to go to the States or stay in Canada, as long as the driving distance is 5-6 hrs one way. We are looking to stay at least 1 night to 2 nights.

What do US motorists think about the roadside sobriety tests ?
EG :- Walking along a straight line, heel to toe.
Counting backwards.
Standing on one leg for a period.

Are you legally obliged to carry out the officer's request. ?
And what would happen if you firstly asked the officer to demonstrate the test(s) and he /she made a balls of it ?

And highest unemployment rate.....Just read in the Wall Street
Journal Thursday that the cities of Detroit, entire Detroit metro,
Oakland county, Saginaw, Flint, Jackson, Ann Arbor, and Jackson
have the highest foreclosure and bankruptcy rates in the entire NATION! Yet I never hear this in the national news! I live in Chicago, almost right next door, and If I didn't read this I would not
have any idea this is happening.
Now the auto industry just announced 100,000 jobs cut, mostly
in the Michigan area. Whats going on here? Do they expect everyone to work at casinos dealing blackjack and tending bar?
Is that the only hope? Go to Vegas or something?
Does anyone in Michigan even give a s h i t?
If I were you folks I would march enmasse to Lansing and demand
what in God's name is going on! I would send a petition to impeach
Jennifer Granholm, your Canadian governor, immediately, and send her back to Vancouver where she belongs!

Everytime I have ever been to a bookstore, I have never seen a travel book about Detroit. I see travel books about cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston but I have always wonder why is the no travel books about Detroit? After all, Detroit is a major city in the United States.

I was looking on Google Earth, and the downtown part is really condensed, but when you look at the surrounding suburbs it's very sparse and lot's of open green areas, and many of the homes seem to be burnt down or really dark, and abandoned looking. And the homes have so much space between each other, like just big huge green patchs of fields, most cities it would be prime real estate there? Is it because of crime or thats just how it always was?

New jobs?-requires new industries willing to move (back) to the city where taxes seem to be higher, crime issues, "skilled" work-force issues; not to mention the continual loss of jobs in Detroit and the whole metro area due to problems of the Big Three.
Remove/tear down vacant buildings and clean up the city?-requires more money, higher taxes, businesses and more people to increase tax base, etc.
Try to entice more/new people back into the city to live?- requires jobs, better schools, businesses, shopping, better city services, and, a much greater sense of safety.
Improve city services and/or schools?- population, job, and business loss inhibit the ability to do so with an ever decreasing tax base.
Get tough on crime?-again difficult because requires greater police presence which requires more taxes which requires more industries, businesses, residents moving into the city;also partly requires eliminating abandoned homes/cleanup

It all seems like a vicious circle-where to start

New York was the safest of the nation's 10 largest cities in 2005, with about one crime reported for every 37 residents, according to an Associated Press analysis of FBI statistics.

The large city with the highest total crime rate was Dallas, with about one crime reported for every 12 people.

I'm from Chicago area, and very sad and pissed that this is happening to you guys. We have been bleeding for years, from the steel mills on down. We know what its like, believe me! Hang
in there!
I'm presuming most job loss will be in the suburbs....is that the case? Do you see a mass migration out of the Detroit area period
if the big three swing the ax as heavy as the papers say?
Is Detroit trying to diversify the area economy? How about
a tech center, per the compuware building area?
