I have had the best luck with travelocity.com. I've tried them all...cheaptickets, expedia, and orbitz and travelocity.com. Farecast.com is a great website that tells you when the best time to buy the plane ticket you need.

If you are a student try statravel.com

Check Expedia for price variations between the airlines, then whichever airline you decide on using, book the trip on the airlines own website, as it will save you around £5 on the fee that Expedia charge.

If you plan on booking a flight and a hotel then use Expedia, as they normally have good combination deals.

If you're after a charter flight then try Travel Republic who do fantastic air fre prices to various locations around the world (including Florida, Cancun and parts of Canada), from different airports in the UK.

I have found that it varies every time.

The sites I check are:
www.travelocity.com
www.priceline.com
www.orbitz.com
www.expedia.com

Once I have the lowest price for the flight I need from these sites, then I go to the website of the actual airline. Generally, they have even lower prices, but it's easier to figure out the airline and flight time/number from the other sites.

You always have to do a bit of homework. If your flying dates are flexible, it will help as often the midweek flights are cheaper than Friday, Sat, Sun flights.

If you are REALLY flexible (as in you don't mind having to change planes a few times, or flying out in the middle of the night or arriving at 1 in the morning then go to priceline and name your own price. You MUST investigate the lowest price through all the other sites first so you'll know how much lower to offer.

there is not any secret, magic internet site with the "maximum inexpensive" airfares. you're able to do the study, and be as versatile as attainable on the subject of shuttle dates. verify the shuttle sites (airgorilla, expedia, travelocity, etc.) and additionally verify the airline web content. I particularly have frequently (no longer continually, yet frequently) discovered the superb fares on the airline web content. verify with a genuine shuttle agent to ask approximately promotional fares and particular deals. in case you in addition to could choose a lodge or apartment vehicle, verify the fee of mixing the purchases in a kit. as an occasion, i found a cope with airfare + lodge in Hawaii for a week that replaced into basically $a hundred better than basically the airfare. while vacationing to far places verify the charges once you chop up the cost tag. as an occasion, finding "Chicago to Nairobi" (all on one cost tag) could fee a sprint plenty better than finding "Chicago to London" and then "London to Nairobi". If that seems to be the case, consult with a genuine shuttle agent approximately getting the better fare all on one cost tag. good success!
