Am I mistaken? I've had the strong belief that Detroit proper is beyond gentrification, but I've had several people tell me that I'm wrong, and that things are looking very up for Detroit proper(the city itself, not burbs).
I want to hear from Detroit city and suburban residents. I know
there are tough times ahead with the auto industry layoffs.
Your area needs a shot in the arm. The Tigers might help, but
you guys need a whole lot more than that. Jobs might be a start.
Detroit is a huge metropolitan area, almost as big as Chicago.
Only prob is, residents decided to move out enmasse in the 60's and 70's, creating suburban sprawl on steroids.
What can be done with Detroit city itself? Can it ever be a tourist destination even close to rivaling Chicago? Here in Chicago, we have constant streams of double decker tourist buses filled
to the brim where I work and live....
Do you envision a mass infusion of gentrification in Detroit,
or will it forever remain a suburban city?

My family wants to take a vacation and were thinking about using Priceline for the airline tickets. Has anyone used them? We did the Name Your Own Price on the tickets and found a great deal. What are the flights like? A lot of layovers? Any hidden costs? Any problems with the tickets? What about boarding passes? We played around with the amounts, it accepted several different ones. If we agree to pay a lower amount, will we get worse flights than if we were to name a higher price? Any feedback anyone can give would be appreciated. Any luggage restrictions? Thanks.

I always heard that the city Detroit, has alot of drug dealers, violence, whores and dead buildings. I just wanted to know what is still alive and happy in Detroit?

to just dismiss the city as a possible tourist destination/point of interest for visitors? Yes, the city has lots of problems (urban decay, gangs, drugs, violent crime, etc), but so does every other large city- NY, LA, Chi-town, Miami, the Big Easy, Hotlanta, etc.- and noone thinks twice about these places being popular tourist destinations. I can argue Detroit (especially if I add its' suburbs) has as much to offer tourists as almost any of these other places (museums, clubs, bars, restaurants, sports, performing arts, the zoo, constant festivals and cultural events, etc). Why do so many people- especially suburbanites- automatically have nothing positive to say about Detroit to others; these same people argue the city has nothing going for it (when it actually has a lot to offer)and yet continue to sabotage Detroit (and the whole metro-Detroit area for that matter) with their criticism from becoming/redeveloping into that major city/metro area that they would like it to be(come) ?
