well... lol
let's just keep it real. as a black chick from Detroit, who is responding (i think) to a white male from out of the area...yes, you can have a great time in detroit (don't listen to losers). but Detroit, my dear, is unique in the sense that the gems of the city are not flashed on television...like Times Square, or Rodeo Drive :) you HAVE to know where to go in detroit.
i can keep it real b/c...let's be honest...u don't want to go alllll over the city limits. stay downtown, go to an event downtown, eat downtown. :) there are many many wonderful hotels (thank you super bowl), restaurants (thanks you super bowl) and night spots. try to catch a Tiger's game (Comerica Park is beautiful, even if you don't like baseball, b/c i don't). Sunday...lions game! :) everyone is mentioning the casinos...but i am only suggesting Greektown. it's the most tourist friendly and is in the heart of the Greektown strip of restaurants, bars, etc...
You can catch a comedy show at Second City (which is attached to Hockeytown). And of course, you should go to the Renaissance Center and get some fine dining by the river. Speaking of dining on the river...we have the Detroit Princess, which is a really nice cruise boat that goes up and down the detroit river (which divides US from Canada). Speaking of Canada :).....You said that you wanted to stay w/i the limits, but remember that another country is right next door! if you bring a birth certificate/passport...you can take the bridge over to Canada and get a different flavor. right across the border is tons of nightlife, and yes, another casino :) but it's very nice and the border is right downtown, detroit (which is where we are ALL telling you to stay!)
Good luck. And I hope you decide to come. I am sure you will enjoy yourself.

It's not bad.... would have been fine this weekend because there was both the Detroit Jazz Fesitval (awesome!) and the Michigan State Fair going on.
Dearborn is right next to Detroit and contains the Henry Ford Museum which includes Greenfield Village (excellent replica of life in old days) and the Ford Rouge Plant Tour, where you can watch the F-150 get built.
So, if you allow yourself to go out of the city lilmits for a bit, you'll have a really good weekend.

I don't think that there is two days worth of things to do here. 6 or 8 hours maybe but not 2 days. You could go to Greektown for lunch, a casino for a few hours, Hard Rock for a drink, a million other bars for a drink, go to campus martius and see whats going on there and depending on the season, take in a ball game or a hockey game. I can't think of anything else real huge to do in the city limits.

Yes, it is doable. There is Greektown, the casinos, the Renaissance Center area, and Belle Isle. Stay away from the east side! Stay in the good parts of Detroit, which are few (but you will know the good parts from the bad parts, as it is extremely noticeable).

Sort of...if you just stay down town, and there is a sporting event like the red wings, tigers, lions, that you like you can watch that...you can also go to one of the casinos if you like that....there are a few night clubs around town too, as well as the hard rock cafe, although it is tiny by comparison to other places you might have been to..
be prepared to be dissapointed, though...detroit is still very much hurting from the loss of manufacturing jobs.
even downtown you will see lots of empty buildings
if you dare go outside of downtown, you will see LOTS of abandonded buildings

I was going to answer, but the one by Wiznet couldn't be topped.
Detroit would be a good place for a weekend getaway, depending on when you scheduled it there might be more or less to do.
But there would always be enough to keep you busy for a weekend if you were willing to look around and find what there is available.

Of all the cities in the u.s., why do you choose one of the highest crime level cities to vacation in? 2 days, huh? Well, I know where you can spend 2 days and really enjoy yourselves. It is in Dearborn and the place is Greenfield Village. it will take you one day to see the village and another day to take in the relics inside Henry Ford's Museum which is located inside Greenfield Village. There is so much to see and do plus have loads of fun doing it. It is designed for all ages. You are turning back the hands of time, a time you and your family will create memories you will cherish for a life time. I guarantee a fun-filled 2 days you will never regret.

there is plenty to do downtowwn. Casinos, restaurants, clubs and bars. You'll have fun. Now I don't know where u r from, but all of the clubs and bars are open until 2. After that, the casinos will be the only other place to go after 2. Have fun while u r here!
