Hi, I'm from Brazil and I'm thinking about going on a J1 program for a work experience in NY city. But first I need to know what are my chances to get a job there. I've taken this program in Colorado two years ago, and it was perfect! I worked at Loveland Ski area and made enough money to pay for housing and food. Now I'm thinking about going somewhere else. For those not familiar with the J1 program: Its a program offered to university undergraduate students from foreign cultures to come work in USA during our summer vacation - your winter season - for a 3 to 4 month period. We work on a regular position just to experience the american way of life and exchange our cultural experiences. So, could you tell me how hard is it to get a job around Manhattan? I heard its not as easy as in Colorado...is it true? Thanks!

Not to or from an Airport.

I was surprised that nobody has asked this question yet. I've noticed that there is a huge price difference between economy class flights and first class flights. Even between economy and business and business to first class is a big difference. For example, a round-trip flight from Honolulu to Tokyo is $1000 economy. However, a business class ticket is $5000 and a first class ticket is $9000. What in the world could they possibly offer that would want me to spend $4000 more for each step up?

I am really curious. Anyone who has had experience with first class flights or even business class flights-I want to hear from you. Obviously, I have only flown economy in my experiences. I hear that some airlines offer exclusive lounges at airports. But what else could the flight have that would make me want to spend an extra $4000? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Isn't it ironic...While on (a long overdue) holiday in SA, I was away from the SA forum, and now that I'm away from the motherland, I'm back to chat with all you beautiful South Africans.
What did I miss out on? I see there are a few new characters (and one or two old ones with a new avatar...hehehe).
Zim, I travelled through George 2 weeks ago and waved to everyone who I thought may look like you.

Should we blame Steve Irwin for going into the water last September and not being careful around stingrays?

What exactly happened to him in the water?

Do we really know the facts?

My favorite place in the Philippines (and in the world) is Batanes. I could go on all day talking about it, and how I enjoyed the ride on the falowa to the next island. And how amazed I was with the Honesty coffee shop. I tell my friends "wala kang karapatan mamatay (you should not die) unless you have been there".

If you have been there, what places did you visit? Would you be back there?

any advice on inexpensive hotels on freemont. i've seen some pretty cheap prices but i can't decide, i'll only be there for 2 days and basically need somewhere to sleep on a budget so i'm not looking for a 4 star hotel. just something decent on for a cheap price. where did you stay, would you stay again, how was the rooms, and customer service.

What's it like living in Iceland compared to the states? I am young, only 19, but like many Americans I'm sort of getting sick of the country.

My main concerns are the financial and commercial issues of living in Iceland. The country is very small and I don't know how hard it is to run a business or stay employed up there. My dream would be to live in a small home outside of the capital where I could freelance my design work or create a small firm. Do you think a graphic artist could survive there? I mean, if I have very strong talent the large American companies would still be willing to hire me despite the distance...right? I wonder how expensive it is to have the currencies converted to Icelandic... Plus, what is it like commercially up there? Reyjavik (not sure if I spelled that right) seems so small from the pictures that I find it hard to believe I could find an Apple store or something resembling a K-Mart. What about TV?

Fill me in on life in Iceland.

Appreciate it!

What are some good things to do in Florida (mainly Pensacola & Panama City)

We really like the beach, sightseeing, anything to do with nature, etc...

also, we're stopping in Alabama & Nashville (things to do here?)

If anyone has any ideas, I would very much appreciate the help!
