My favorite place in the Philippines (and in the world) is Batanes. I could go on all day talking about it, and how I enjoyed the ride on the falowa to the next island. And how amazed I was with the Honesty coffee shop. I tell my friends "wala kang karapatan mamatay (you should not die) unless you have been there".

If you have been there, what places did you visit? Would you be back there?

Yes auggee, Batanes is not for the people who would prefer 5-star amenities. It is a major attraction to an entirely different set of people.

Yes Jan-na, that would be ok. We have a group that goes there almost as some "pilgrimage" every February - march. Lory Tan of WWF is also a Batanes regular.

No, i haven't been to the island of Batanes. But, we share the same fascination for the island and it's people. If i earn enough, first in line to visit is that island. The place is very rustic and bucolic, it's like time stand's still there. Local's tagged the place as the New Zealand of the Philippines, because of it's nice and cool weather and of course it's beautiful hills! I plan to stay there, granted that i save enough in the future i'll purchase a lot there and build a stone house just like the natives. Probably i'd go biking the whole day, across it's hillside singing along the poetry of Batanes' notorious wind. You should try to visit the island of Boljo'on in Cebu, if you liked Batanes, most likely you'll love Boljo'on.

I've been to the Hundred Islands, Boracay and Dakak. These three can't be compared with one another since they offer different lures to different peoples. I still have to see Palawan and I heard that it's a good and refreshing place to go. Batanes? I don't know; I heard it's very rural and for people who are used to a lot of amenities, Batanes is not an advisable place.

i live on the southern part of mindanao. it is sad that the regular plane fare from general santos to manila is more expensive than a flight from manila to hongkong. it was only when cebu pacific ("it is time that every juan flies")entered the picture that domestic tickets are starting to be cheaper. i just hope that with the coming of cebu pacific's atr 72-500 this 2008, they could serve batanes and other parts of our country.**
