Should we blame Steve Irwin for going into the water last September and not being careful around stingrays?

What exactly happened to him in the water?

Do we really know the facts?

Given that stingrays generally aren't a threat to divers (generally being the keyword).. I think what happened To Steve Irwin can be put down as being a Freak accident.

Had he been killed by a Croc or bitten by a deadly snake, PERHAPS you might have been able to say "oh he had it coming sooner or later one of them would get him" .. as in the probability of things taking place...

But this stingray thing ... Honestly he worked with many more dangerous things, It was a FREAK accident. No Blame.

The public explanation is probably the correct one. These animals have long been known to be slightly dangerous though this is the first time I have heard of an actual death. From what I can make out he had been pushing his luck for a long time. It just happens to have been one of the less dangerous of the several dangerous animals he got close to. The reality is that not very many Australians are or were very interested in Mr. Irwin. He was a big hit in the USA and with kids in Australia but adults, well we were just amused or slightly annoyed by him.

It was an accident.

People swim with sharks and stingrays every single day and there are rarely problems.

He was killed instantly because of the toxicity of the spur and the location of it on his body (chest / heart).

I just hope for his family's sake, the footage is never released to the public.

Steve Irwin made his career out of getting inside animals' comfort zone and filming the reaction. I couldn't watch his show as it was based on making animals distressed, whatever Irwin claimed. While it is unfortunate that he died, he died by pushing one animal a little bit too far.

i dont think he should be blamed for going in the water with stringrays, his life was about wildlife and he knew the consequences. he could have been a policeman and died in the line of duty (his time was up).....he did what he knew best.

yeah in a way because I think he was always jumping into things without thinking them through all the way...however, I think that is soo tragic that he died..I still can't believe it.

to my understanding he was stung in the chest by a stingray..it pierced through his heart causing him to bleed to death...Also he was injected by a venomous poison..Even if they were able to maintain his heart he would have died from the poison

its very tragic and very sad
