Hands down the best place on Fremont St. is the Golden Nugget. It is way above anything else in the area. A distant second would be Main Street Station which is a block off Fremont.
I have room pics from both places on my site at...

The biggest problem you'll have with Mandalay Bay as a first-time in Vegas is its location at the end of the strip. It means you're either doing a lot more extra walking, or spending a lot more money on cabs than you would at other locations. (Obviously if you're driving, these points are moot.) There are some really, really good prices for Vegas hotel rooms those days, so you have a lot more options than normal. The Flamingo is in a great location in the heart of the strip, and while their low-end rooms are ... well ... low end, you can get a GO room for only $52 that week ($76 if you want one with a view of the strip) You can even get a mini suite for $100. No resort fees at the Flamingo either. Or Bally's North Tower Deluxe rooms, going for only $37/night that week. That's a phenomenal price, and their south and north tower suites are less than $90/night. Even the petite suite at Harrah's is going for only $71 and that has 700 square feet. Sorry I realize I'm listing only Caesars properties, but it looks like they're having a substantial sale right now.

You have to choices:
1st is Golden nugget and it’s a 4 stars. Best hotel on Fremont area $79-89 a night.
2nd is Four Queen and its a 2 and half stars. About $65 a night.
I like Golden nugget they have nice room and they did a lot of remodeling .

Golden nugget is by far the best hotel on Fremont street. You should be able to get it fo under $90 from sunday to thursday night. It will be more expensive on friday and saturday nights however.
If you can't get Golden Nugget any one of Fremont hotel, Four Queens, Main Street Station or tower rooms at El Cortez should suffice.

We just booked Binnions for $49 a night. It's nice. I've stayed the Plaza, it's okay...clean rooms, polite, not a lot of bells and whistles, BUT we did win more there than the other places in freemont

You mean there is stuff over that amount on Freemont? I have stayed at hotels in Vegas for much less and got so much more, don't worry, you'll get a good rate whereever you go. No one wants vacancies.

El Cortez. Sixth and Fremont. It's one block east of Las Vegas Boulevard. The owner, Jackie Gaughan, lives at the place.

If you are going stag, book a small room at the Golden Gate. Old, but clean, and cheap. Great casino there and the drinks are cheap also. $.99 shrimp cocktail.
